Prague Travel: A Look at Old Town Square from High Above the Ground

Having grown up in Austria, I had never made it to the Czech Republic, one of our neighbouring countries. Prague, in particular, had interested me for a long time, but I had never had a chance to visit it. Well, on June 1, finally, I was on my way to explore Prague, one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. I took the train from Vienna, enjoyed a great conversation with a young Czech lady from Brno who is now living in Berlin, and finally around 3 pm I made it into the Holesovice Railway Station in Prague. Later that afternoon and evening I took a personal tour of the Old Town area with local expert Jitka Simkova and her colleague Karel. We started on St. Wenceslav Square, with its early 20th century architecture, and walked through narrow cobble-stoned streets into the centre of Prague: Old Town Square. This expansive public square features two of the main attractions of Prague: the Old Town Hall with its famous astronomical clock, and the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Tyn with its distinctive roofline. Kinsky Palace and the Church of St. Nicholas along with a variety of pastel-coloured medieval houses impressed me as one of the most beautiful European squares I had ever seen. We continued our walk to the famous historical Charles Bridge whose construction started in 1357 and continued for about 150 years. Walking back through the narrow streets we stopped at a typical Czech beer hall, U Medvikdku, where I got to taste some authentic Czech beer brewed on site ...

Meet Magician Mickey Mouse in new Town Square Theater at the Magic Kingdom, silent film style

Visit www.InsideTheMagic.net for more from the new Town Square Theater meet-and-greet. At the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Mickey Mouse has a new spot to meet and greet with theme park guests inside the Town Square Theater. Themed as a turn-of-the-19th-century Victorian-style theater, Mickey is "backstage" in his dressing room, waiting to meet his fans. This is the first time Disney's Fastpass has been used for a character meeting. Along the walls of the queue are animated posters of Magician Mickey. Inside the dressing room are tributes to Disney theme parks and attractions around the world. This video keeps with the early 1900s style by featuring ragtime music and an "old film" look.

PRAGUE OLD TOWN Praha Stare Mesto Czech Republic

Prague, world famous city on the Moldau, captivates with its remarkable monuments and unique ambience. There is hardly another Middle European metropolis that possesses so many wonderful architectural and historic treasuries thus Prague's combination of Gothic and Baroque buildings have created a unique harmony that is truly magnificent. The Charles Bridge is, without a doubt, one of the most famous sights in Prague due to Emperor Charles The Fourth who ordered the construction of this marvelous Gothic stone bridge on the river Vlatava. The Old Town Square, with its lavish and elegant houses, has often been the setting for numerous colorful events including coronations, knights' tournaments, political and religious meetings, and even executions and massacres. The proud Tyn Church, 'Church of Our Lady before Tyn', was donated by tradesmen in 1365. The south tower was completed at the beginning of the 16th century and the wonderful design of the sacred Gothic building also applies to its interior. Charles Alley is one of the most beautiful old town lanes in the world, largely due to its beautiful Renaissance houses with their slight hint of Baroque. A mighty, high cupola towers above Kreuzherren Square and the legendary church is an ideal vantage point for many glorious views across the old town. Prague is a city of history with an amazing abundance of old world charm.

LASER SHOW VIDEO OF PRAGUE ASTRONOMIC CLOCK 6TH CENTURY ANNIVERSARY

Filmed by ALBERTO AIJON & CARLOS ALBERTO CASTILLO Realizated by ALBERTO AIJON & CARLOS ALBERTO CASTILLO Edited by ALBERTO AIJON Prague astronomical clock will celebrate already 600 years from its creation. The Old Town clock is one of the most precious and most famous Prague historical sights. It is located on a Gothic tower of the Old Town Hall on the Old Town Square. The clock is the mature work of Czech Gothic science and technology and at the same time a magnificent artistic sight. The horloge has three main parts. The most interesting is the astronomical part, showing positions of celestial bodies. Under it there is placed a calender circle, which was equipped with paintings by Josef Mánes in the 19th century. Around the astronomical part there are located movable figures. An important part is also a movable procession of twelve apostles, who show up every full hour above the astronomical part. One of the oldest parts of the horloge is composed of a mechanical clock apparatus and astronomical dial from the year 1410. The apparatus was constructed by a watchmaker Mikuláš z Kadane probably according to a project by Jan Šindel, who later on became a professor of mathematics and astronomy at the Charles University. The Prague astronomical clock was only the third machine of its kind. The first horloge was constructed in Padua in the year 1344.

Prague - the magical city

Prague, the magical city of bridges, cathedrals, clock towers and church domes, whose architectural landscape has been mirrored in the surface of the Vltava river for more than ten centuries, is simply stunning. Quite impossible to forget is an evening stroll along Charles Bridge or a late afternoon dinner at an Italian café at the old town square, a stone's throw from the famous astronomical clock, and a minitrain ride from the royal castle through cobble streets to Mala Strana, the shopping district. Our tour group stayed at Crowne Plaza Hotel for four days (Aug 15-18). Everyday we took the tram because the terminal is right in front of our hotel Our city tour took us to the the largest castle in the world, the Royal Castle, the nearby St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George Basilica. the Golden Lane where Kafka once lived, the Old Town square, the Tyn Church and the statue of Jan Hus (the religious reformer who was burned at the stake), Karlova Street, St. Nicholas Church, and Church of Our Lady Victorious where the venerated Sto. Niño de Praga is enshrined. Built in the mid-14th century with its pillars decorated with 30 baroque sculptures of saints, the famous landmark Charles Bridge is romantic day and night. Another "must-see" is the astronomical clock, where each hour, the twelve apostles take turns peeking out from two small windows above the clock. At the same time, figures symbolizing Death, Vanity, Greed, and the Ottoman Invader placed around the clock move with the ...

Paul Beard Resonator Guitar: Bearded Men Play Beard Guitars At Old Town School Of Folk Music

Ever since the history of music over 100 years ago, guitar has needed to be louder . . . just ask any lead guitarist worth his weight in copies of Van Halen CDs. Seriously though, the resonator guitar was made for just that -- to be loud enough to match instruments playing around it. Check out this video from Old Town School of Folk Music to see an immaculately built Paul Beard Resonator Guitar and hear Tim Joyce and Tony Polecastro shed some history on the square necked lap guitar.

Prague Astronomical Clock, Prague Orloj, Pražský orloj - 12 PM HDD

The oldest part of the Orloj, the mechanical clock and astronomical dial, dates back to 1410 when it was made by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and Jan Šindel, the latter a professor of mathematics and astronomy at Charles University. Later, presumably around 1490, the calendar dial was added and clock facade decorated with gothic sculptures. In 1552 it was repaired by Jan Taborský, clock-master of Orloj, who also wrote a report on the clock where he mentioned Hanuš as maker of the clock. The Orloj stopped working many times in the centuries after 1552, and was repaired many times. In the 17th century moving statues were added, and figures of the Apostles were added after major repair in 1865-1866. The Orloj suffered heavy damage on May 7 and especially May 8, 1945, during the Prague Uprising, when Germans directed incendiary fire from several armored vehicles and an anti-aircraft gun to the south-west side of the Old Town Square in an effort to silence the provocative broadcasting initiated by the National Committee on May 5. The hall and nearby buildings burned along with the wooden sculptures on the Orloj and the calendar dial face made by Josef Mánes. The machinery was repaired, the wooden Apostles restored by Vojtěch Sucharda, and the Orloj started working again in 1948, but only after significant effort [1]. There exists a good deal of information relating to the construction of the Orloj . It is believed that the Orloj was constructed in 1490 by clockmaster Jan Růže ...
