CISPA = SOPA 2.0?

Via The LA Times: "In spite of their hopes, Internet activists are finding that their efforts to keep the digital world free of further regulation did not end with SOPA's defeat. The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011 is working its way through Congress, and is the latest proposed legislation to raise concerns among privacy activists. Introduced in November by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), the stated goal of CISPA is to create new channels for communication between government intelligence entities and private firms regarding potential and emerging cyber-security threats...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more from Morgan Little: www.latimes.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. Anonymous vs CISPA: 'Bill fights imaginary threat'

Outcry from Internet users, over the controversial cyber security act 'CISPA', is set to spill onto the streets. The hacker group Anonymous is hitting back in response to the bill by launching what it calls 'Operation Defense Phase two'. CISPA, having passed the US House of Representatives on Friday, is now a step closer to becoming law. It's now heading to the Senate, as the White House continues to threaten a veto of the bill. The act could allow Internet companies to legally share sensitive user information with the American government - a move critics say infringes on privacy and civil liberties. Journalist David Seaman explains how this bill puts everyone at risk. Luke Samuel, from Online Magazine "Spiked" thinks the CISPA bill is one of the latest attempts by the US government to limit the first amendment rights of its citizens. Everybody has become conscious of their "Online Paper Trail." We've detagged ourselves from those embarrassing photos from a college party 5 years ago. But what's really out there? CISPA: say 'goodbye' to privacy and freedom

Lately Congress has attempted to sneak legislation that could change the face of the Internet as we know it, and all in the name of national security. First there was SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act, but now CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing Protection Act) is threatening the privacy and freedom of US citizens. No online activity will be safe when it comes to these bills because as of now what's considered a cyber security threat is a large grey area, but David Seaman, journalist and host of The DL Show, joins us to take a closer look at CISPA.
