The Three Pagodas (Dali - Yunnan - China)

(EN) The Three Pagodas are an ensemble of three independent pagodas arranged on the corners of a equilateral triangle, near the town of Dali, Yunnan province, China, dating from the time of the Nanzhao kingdom and Kingdom of Dali. The Three Pagodas are located about 1.5 km (0.9 miles) north of scenic Dali, Yunnan province. They are at the east foot of the tenth peak of the massive Cangshan Mountains and face the west shore of the Erhai Lake of the ancient Dali town. The Three Pagodas are made of brick and covered with white mud. As its name implies, the Three Pagodas comprise three independent pagodas forming a symmetric triangle. The elegant, balanced and stately style is unique in China's ancient Buddhist architectures, which makes it a must-see in the tour of Dali. The Three Pagodas, visible from miles away, has been a landmark of Dali City and selected as a national treasure meriting preservation in China. The main pagoda, known as Qianxun Pagoda (pinyin Qian Xun Ta), reportedly built during 823-840 AD by king Quan Fengyou (劝丰佑) of the Nanzhao state, is 69.6 meters (227 feet) high and is one of the tallest pagodas in China's history. The central pagoda is square shaped and composed of sixteen stories; each story has multiple tiers of upturned eaves. There is a carved shrine containing a white marble sitting Buddha statue at the center of each façade of every story. The body of the pagoda is hollow from the first to the eighth story, surrounded with 3.3 meters (10 ...

Nipponzan Myohoji is a Buddhist order founded in Japan in 1917 by the Most Venerable Nichidatsu Fujii. After Japan experienced the nuclear holocaust of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Ven. Fujii led the construction of Peace Pagodas in Japan and then throughout the whole world. They were to stand as beacons for world peace. Fujii was asked by a sceptical journalist whether the Peace Pagoda in Milton Keynes could possibly help end the Cold War. He said: "Of course it will." Ten years later, the Iron Curtain collapsed. Chinese Lesson , Taiwan Dragon and Tiger Pagoda

This year is the 10th year of Wannian Folklore Festival(10/16-10/24) in Zuoying, Kaohsiung Taiwan. The purposes of boom the economics of Zuoying and preserving Taiwanese traditional culture gave birth to this festival in the year of 2001. Here I was at Lotus Lake(蓮池潭) where its beauty and the harmoniousness predominate the whole place even when it was packed with visitors. My eyes were, however, instantly caught by Dragon and Tiger Pagoda(龍虎塔) as I strolled along Lotus Lake. The meaning or the belief of "Expelling bad luck, bring in good fortune" represents a strong sense of Taiwanese traditional culture as there are numbers of other cultural practices we have that are based on such a belief. Are you running out of your luck? Are you feeling down and out? A visit to Dragon and Tiger Pagoda could bring you the fortune you need! :D I am trying to save up Camera Fund for better quality videos to you all. I have been using the one I used in this video, which is the only one I have, for nearly two years and evidently, it doesn't have a good microphone because it's not a video camera. You can help make it happen by sending your donation to peggyteacheschinese@gmail.com Thank you very much! :) If you are interested in 1 on 1 Chinese tutor lessons, please visit: www.peggyteacheschinese.com Ever since I have started the tutor lessons on Skype, learners throughout the world discovered me on YouTube. Pagoda Forest, Shaolin Temple in Dengfeng of Henan Province

The pagoda forest in Shaolin Temple was a concentration of tomb pagodas for eminent monks, abbots and ranking monks at the temple. A rough count shows more than two hundred fifty tomb pagodas of various sizes, making it the biggest pagoda forest in China. The forest stands at the foot of Shaoshi Mountain about half a kilometer west of Shaolin Temple and is composed of pagodas dating from 791 to 1803. Most are stone and brick structures of one to seven storeys, under fifteen meters high--much smaller than pagodas for Buddhist relics--but they all carry the exact year of their construction and many carvings and inscriptions. They are in a variety of styles, but are mainly multi-eaved and pavilion-style. Their shapes are varied, including polygonal, cylindrical, vase, conical and monolithic, making the pagoda forest an exhibition of ancient pagodas, carvings and calligraphy of various dynasties. Here also lie the remains and traces of the activities of some eminent foreign monks. For example, in the eastern part of the forest a tomb pagoda built in 1339 in the Yuan Dynasty bears an epitaph written by a Japanese monk at Shaolin Temple, which is of elegant language and excellent handwriting. In the western part of the forest is a tomb pagoda built in 1564 in the Ming Dynasty for an Indian monk. Besides the pagoda forest there are many invaluable tomb pagodas scattered around Shaolin Temple. They include Faro Pagoda and Tongguang Pagoda, built in 689 and 771 in the Tang Dynasty ...

Bagan Myanmar Burma Thousands of Temples Pagodas Monuments in a 41sq km Area - Phil in Bangkok

www.PhilinBangkok.com http www.IMInfoBlog.com The ruins of Bagan cover an area of 16 square miles (41 km2). The majority of its buildings were built in the 11th century to 13th century, during the time Bagan was the capital of the First Burmese Empire. It was not until King Pyinbya moved the capital to Bagan in AD 874 that it became a major city. However, in Burmese tradition, the capital shifted with each reign, and thus Bagan was once again abandoned until the reign of Anawrahta. In 1057, King Anawrahta conquered the Mon capital of Thaton, and brought back the Tripitaka Pali scriptures, Buddhist monks and craftsmen and all of these were made good use of in order to transform Bagan into a religious and cultural centre. With the help of a monk from Lower Burma, Anawrahta made Theravada Buddhism a kind of state religion, and the king also established contacts with Sri Lanka. In the 12th and 13th centuries, Bagan became a truly cosmopolitan centre of Buddhist studies, attracting monks and students from as far as India, Sri Lanka as well as the Thai and Khmer kingdoms. Among many other works, Aggavaṃsa's influential Saddanīti, a grammar of the language of the Tipiṭaka, would be completed there in 1154. In 1287, the kingdom fell to the Mongols, after refusing to pay tribute to Kublai Khan. Abandoned by the Burmese king and perhaps sacked by the Mongols, the city declined as a political centre, but continued to flourish as a place of Buddhist scholarship. Pagoda management

For more information, visit: www.equitycam.tv. 'Pagoda management' tells the following story: While Buddhism is considered the main religion in the country, critics say spirituality is being lost. Some monks also practice animism helping to keep age-old traditions. But what schooling do monks receive these days? Are the old teachings dilluted by new curriculums? In our second part, we see that pagodas are also managed by their own committee: what happens when the head monks and committe disagree? It isEquity Weekly show # 109. Eindawyar Pagoda, Mandalay, Myanmar

Built in 1847 by King Bagan on the site of his old royal residence before the city of Mandalay was founded, hence its popular name Eindawyar, Mahalawka Ranthi is the formal title of this famous pagoda in Mandalay, Myanmar. A popular venue as headquarters for strikes as well as for holding mass meetings and public assemblies, it has played an historic role in the political upheavals of Burma since colonial times. We had a guided tour on a quiet Sunday morning by our gracious host, a grandson of the late pagoda patron U Kyaw, member of parliament before the miltary coup of 1962 and wealthy burgher of Mandalay.
