This is the Philippines

This is the Philippines This video is a patchwork of shots I have taken in the Philippines from January to April 2011. I went there to study as an exchange student in Manilla. My stay there allows me to travel in many places like Bohol, Batad, Baguio, Batad, Angeles, the Pinatubo Volcano, Batangas, Cebu and more... I used a Canon 550d with an old lens Takumar 50mm 1.4 and the canon 18-55mm. First time I'm shooting a movie, which isn't as easy as I thought but I tested many things and finally learned a lot! So the result is far to be technically perfect but I have done what I could :D I'll miss the Philippines, the curiosity of their inhabitants, the beauty of the landscapes and my crazy life there. If you want to see more, here is my flickr account where I put some pictures of the Philippines and other countries of Asia I went during my trip : www.flickr.com The music is from the Temper Trap / Sweet disposition Hope you'll enjoy it GregOOs

Hundreds still missing after Philippines typhoon

www.euronews.net The number of confirmed victims of severe flooding in the southern Philippines has risen sharply. The authorities have announced 200 more deaths caused by Typhoon Washi and its aftermath. Several hundred people are still missing and the final toll is likely to be much higher than the current figure of almost 1500. Many bodies are still thought to be buried in the mud and debris left behind after torrents of water cascaded through coastal and riverside areas on Mindanao island in mid-December.

Philippines storm kills hundreds

www.euronews.net More than 400 people have been killed by a tropical storm in the Philippines, the Philippine National Red Cross said on Saturday. The storm struck Mindanao island on Friday night, battering the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro. Hundreds more are still missing and authorities warn that the death toll could rise further. The storm triggered flash floods and landslides that swept away houses while many islanders were sleeping in their beds.

(Reuters) - More than 250 people were killed and almost twice that number were missing after a typhoon hit the southern Philippines, officials said Saturday, triggering flash floods and landslides and forcing tens of thousands from their homes. Typhoon Washi, with winds gusting up to 90km/h (56 mph), hit the resource-rich island of Mindanao late Friday, bringing heavy rain that also grounded some domestic flights and left wide areas without power. The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) said 256 people were killed in flash floods in Mindanao and another island. Soldiers and police were recovering more bodies washed ashore in nearby towns. "The death toll might still rise because there are still a lot of missing people," said Gwendolyn Pang, secretary-general of the PNRC. She said the hardest-hit areas were in the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro. Almost 400 people were unaccounted for, most of them from a coastal village in Iligan. Houses were swept into the sea by floodwaters while people were sleeping inside late Friday. The latest Red Cross figures put the death toll in Iligan at 144. Another 86 were killed in Cagayan de Oro, many of them children. Five miners were killed in a landslide in Monkayo on Mindanao and another 21 people drowned on the central island of Negros, the PNRC said. The national disaster agency put the death toll at 131, but other government officials also said at least 256 people had been killed. The Philippines social welfare department said ...

Philippines storm claims more than 600 lives

www.euronews.net The search for survivors goes on in the southern Philippines after floods and landslides claimed more than six hundred lives, according to the country's Red Cross. The organisation says hundreds of people are still missing. Towns and villages were ripped apart when a typhoon, since downgraded to a tropical storm, battered Mindanao Island late on Friday as locals slept in their beds. Many of the victims were from the port cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. The government says some 100000 people have been displaced.
Philippines reels in second typhoon's wake

Rescue workers in the Philippines are struggling to evacuate tens of thousands of people trapped in their homes as more floods are forecast in the aftermath of Typhoon Nalgae. "Thriller" (original upload)

Update: 1/29/01 Video can be viewed worldwide except in Germany. Why "Thriller" ? visit: byronfgarcia.com 1500 plus CPDRC inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Cebu, Philippines at practice! This is not the final routine, and definitely not a punishment! WHY THRILLER? What made me choose Michael Jackson's Thriller for the aerobics routine is that Michael Jackson was a convicted man to the eyes of those who hated him. He would have been in imprisoned had it not been for settlement arrangements, they would say. Still Michael Jackson's frailty as a human being makes him like one of us -- whether one is a prisoner or not. I saw in the lyrics and video of Thriller much of what jail culture is like. Because of the hideous conditions in jails, prisons are like tombs and inmates are like ghoulish creatures. The only difference is that dancers in the MJ Thriller video come with make-up and costumes. The Dancing Inmates come as themselves. People perceived to be evil. The message of the Thriller is a message for all of us. The funk of forty thousand years embedded in the cycle of sin and punishment is a legacy no mere mortal can resist or is capable of resisting. No prison wall can and will stop evil from lurking in the dark. No shackle can stop the beast about to strike. No punitive or brutal treatment is ever too strong to stop creatures crawling in search of blood. Unless we stop breeding demons in jails, gruesome ghouls from every tomb will seal ...

Philippines moves to green transportation

The Philippines, like many other countries, is turning to green energy as the price of oil remains high. Right now, the country almost entirely depends on petroleum when it comes to transportation. But as Marga Ortigas reports from Manila, the Philippine capital, the government has very ambitious goals to combat rampant pollution and avoid high fuel costs with new electric vehicles that provide public transportation.

It shows daily life in Bogo. The public market, people hanging out in the town plaza or on the streets of Bogo. You will also see my monkey, George. Naughty little boy that he was. You'll see Jollibee and you'll see their mascot The Bee with his girlfriend dancing int he popular fast food restaurant. You'll see pretty Filipina and friendly pinoy (Filipino men). It is a bit longer than most video but it was put together after a reader of my blog asked for it.
