About two months ago, I watched a video by youtuber: landoftheblueflower. She had converted an old dresser into a can rotator that she put behind the sofa in her living room. When I showed it to my husband, and told him that I wanted one, he got busy. We were fortunate enough to run into a cabinet maker who was clearing out some of his odd pieces and we purchased a closet insert from him that was an unused piece from a construction job he had done. My husband disassembled the piece and used it as a starting point for this cabinet. He used 3/8 inch plywood to make shelves and firring strips to make the runners the shelves sit on. The channels are made by using drywall corner that is stapled onto the plywood. He has made the shelves with a 3 1/2 inch drop to facilitate downhill roll. We were able to accomodate four shelves. With the feet, it is approximatley 33 inches tall, it is 18 inches deep and seven feet long. He has faced it on the front with bead board and trimmed it out with half round molding. The back has been left open to accomodate for easy access in the event of can catastrophy. He has placed a door on the "loading end" of the cabinet with a latch. The "unloading end" has been left open, although we have considered putting a door on it. The top has been fitted with a beautiful piece of long pine trimmed out with frame molding and mitered corners. In all, I am thrilled with the result, this is beautiful and practical. Greetings! Today I am fixing some cheeseburger macaroni skillet from food storage. This is super quick and super delicious and requires things that you may already have in your food storage. Canned hamburger, Macaroni, diced tomatoes, shelf stable cheese. Now, I used Velveeta, but this could easily be made with the Red Feather Cheese or home waxed cheese if you prefer. Whatever you have is what you should use. This could also be adapted with the cheese powder. I have done that in the past with good results. I hope this will inspire you to try to make something from your stores, no matter what it is. Start small, like french toast from homemade bread, egg powder and dried or boxed milk. You might be surprised at how fast the wheels start turning when you realize all the delicious things you can make from the food you have put back for harder times ahead. Greetings! Today I would like to introduce a series that I have been thinking about for a long time. Preppers Pantry, pantry meals, will help all of us use our food storage to its greatest advantage. To give you some background, for about 2 years I have been putting back a supply of food and other items to be used in the event of an emergency, whether it be personal, natural or economic. With the way the world is today, you just never know what could happen tomorrow. Additionally, it is a good idea for all of us to prepare in some way should an emergency strike. I started small, adding a few extra cans or boxes of shelf stable food to my regular pantry. I always store what my family will eat because if we are thrust into a situation where we have to eat beans and rice and I have never cooked beans and rice, no one is going to be happy. When you are placed in a stressful situation, it is best to have things to eat that are familiar and comforting. My few cans extra every grocery trip turned into my husband and I converting a coat closet into an additional larder and then blossomed into him creating a can rotator cabinet, recently we built a loft system for bucket packed items and are now considering more cabinets in our kitchen to maximize our storage potential. All of these things happened over time and with frugal means of implementation. Dont be overwhelmed and dont be scared. Greetings! Since it's Friday, it's time for another installment of Prepper's Pantry and some more ideas of how to use up and rotate all that food storage you are collecting. I make this meal whenever I need "Fast Food" This meal is quick and I made it in 15 minutes. I did it from start to finish here, to prove just how fast it can be. If you don't like to use gravy mix, than by all means, make your own gravy by using some chicken stock, bullion and flour. Either way it will still be fast and easy. pair this chicken and gravy with mashed potatoes from the food storage or even Noodles or Rice and a vegetable and some home canned cranberry sauce and you have a very nice and satisfying meal. No one is going to walk away hungry with this meal and if they do, it will be their own fault. As I have prepared it, the chicken and gravy will easily serve 6 people and maybe a couple more small children. I made just enough potatoes for us to have dinner and two lunches. The girls and i finished a half pint of cranberry sauce and we ate one can of corn. I find that for us, the problem with canned corn is that one can is slightly too little and two cans is way too much. I think a viable solution would be to serve some fresh garden salad along side this meal to round out the green factor. Any way you choose to do this meal, will be hearty, and satisfying. We grew up with this dish and we love it for breakfast or dinner. Simple and delicious and in an SHTF this would make as little or as much as you needed, provided you had the ingredients along with some homemade bread it would fill and satisfy a lot of people.
