Camillus MC-1 Paratrooper: Storied Past But Obsolete Present
It seems amazing that this Camillus MC-1 was to be depended upon to possibly save your life if you were (are) a paratrooper or pilot. But indeed that is what the old MC-1 was designed to do. Using a manually deployed hook blade and torsion spring powered clip blade, it was designed to primarily cut entangled parachute shroud lines by the user. But the design is fraught with several key problems. the hook is an ineffective line cutter requiring a lot of force for effect, it is extremely slow and near impossible to deploy under stress or frigid hands, the main blade rebounds out of lock during deployment, the steel rusts easily, the knife lacks a clip or quick attach device, and the main blade lockup is atrocious. Today there are many more viable line cutting options including the well-designed SOG Bi-Polar which features both an assisted opening line cutter and main blade. Even better for cold hands would be the Benchmade Rescue 5 hook (shown, see Nutnfancy video on it) which requires no special deployment, is easily manipulated, and very lightweight. But the Camillus MC-1 remains a historical part of military airborne operations and will hold keen interest for some in that respect. //////////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 0 out of 10

Taken from the original design produced for WW2 German Paratroopers...The unique foldaway system encloses the blade in the handle and by lifting the latch and pulling the handle apart the blade is released. The handle is symmetrically segmented and articulated to fold away on both sides to grip the longer tang. The manner is similar to a balisong knife (also called a butterfly knife in western countries) - with which it is often confused. Unlike the balisong knife handles that swing freely and independently, the pantographic knife uses a pantograph linkage to keep the handles aligned during opening and closing. The pantographic knife is very strong when compared to most other folding knife designs, being joined at several points and along several planes - this increases the force required to break the blade away from the handle. By enclosing the blade on both sides, double edged blades can be used. This knife is also known as a paratrooper knife, although it was never issued as such. Declassified OSS Film of WWII Decoy Paratrooper 1943
Rare declassified film clip from WWII, produced in May, 1943, by the OSS (Office of Strategic Services - the intelligence organization that preceded the CIA.) This film clip shows an early version of a US Decoy Paratrooper, sometimes nicknamed "Oscar", being tested by the Navy Beach Jumper Unit - a specialized unit in charge of several deception projects during WWII. This Decoy Paratrooper Dummy (paradummy) was only 18" tall and was made of cast metal. It was meant to be used as a deception device to mislead the enemy into believing an Airborne Attack was occurring in one location, when in fact the real attack would be occurring elsewhere. The military hoped that it's small size would appear life sized when seen from a distance while airborne. However, these 18" paradummies were never used during the war because during testing it was decided that they appeared too small and rigid while airborne to look life-like in a combat environment. As a result, the paradummy was soon redesigned and a much larger version was developed (a four foot tall model that was made of a rubberized inflatable material.) This larger version, called the PD Pack, was eventually used in Southern France during Operation Anvil-Dragoon, in 1944 and again later in the Philippines. A third type of paradummy was also developed for use in WWII. It became the most famous of them all when it was used on D-Day, June 6th, 1944. The US Paratroopers of World War 2
I was bored so I made a tribute to the famous US Paratroopers of World War 2. The US paratroopers are probably the most popular unit when it comes to ww2. The most picked unit for WW2 reenacting. There are now about a hundred people on YouTube who reenact and collect 101st airborne. All over the world. Most 101st reenactors are from England and also many in the USA. The 82nd is also highly picked for reenacting too. The very first US combat jumps took place in North Africa during Operation Torch. The 509th Parachute infantry batalion was the first airborne unit to have a combat jump. I believe there was a drop to take an airfield and the other at a place called El Djem or Rommels railroad. The El Djem drop is unknown to most people. It was considered a suicide mission. 32 engineers of the 509th PIB descended from the 3 c-47s. Most were scattered and ended up using Guriella warfare tactics on the Germans for 2 weeks. Only 7 survived i think. The next para drops took place in Sicily and Italy. The 82nd airborne 505th and 504th pir took place in Operation Husky and Avalanche. After that was D-day when the 101st joined the 82nd airborne and dropped behind the invasion beaches in france. Not to long after paratroopers dropped into Southern France part of Operation Dragoo,. Later that year British General Montgomery came up with a plan called Operation Market Garden.
