Pathe News: 1955

www.zazzle.co.uk VERY entertaining collection of stories here! First Ive seen any of the Warner / Pathe collections 1st clip features a guy who wants desperately to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. I guess his family made it a habit to try to go over without any luck. He suffers the same fate. Luckily he makes it out of his barrel alive. Unlucky for him, he breaks his leg on shore. HAHAHA! 2nd clip is a nice Cold War timepiece as a General Marshall gives a diatribe on why the commies are so evil and how they operate and therefore we need to help Europe arm itself! 3rd clip, we remember some men who died in a German Airlift. They said they died for the cold war. No idea what happened.. Oh well.. 5th clip.. Fashions for the office! Nuff said. 4th clip is an impossibly cute dog show.. Chihuahuas against the great danes! Corn Starch for the poodles! Crowns for the bulldogs! Awwwww! Finally, we see a spectacular fire that nearly destroyed a San Fransisco block. Its ok, nothing really extraordinary about this fire, despite the breathlessness of the narrator.

Crazy Taxidermy Museum - Stuffed Animals in Costumes (1965) [HD]

Crazy Taxidermy Museum - Stuffed Animals in Costumes (1965) [HD], Potters Museum in Bramber, Sussex British Pathe made this video at Potters Museum in the 1960s. Walter Potter lived in Bramber his whole life and spent his time dressing up stuffed animals elaborately and placing them in human scenarios. The original narrations states "Potter was a genius who made fur-lined dolls into whimsical but veritable works of poetic art". Of course some people today would see his life's work as abhorrent and disgusting. He was undoubtedly a true British eccentric. Some of the tableaus took years to arrange. The museum still exists today but has moved to Devon, and there is a sign there stating that the animals died of natural causes. RKO-Pathe Studios 1952 Adventures of Superman TV Serial intro

The show is the first television series to feature Superman and began filming in 1951 in California. Sponsored by cereal manufacturer Kellogg's, the syndicated show's first, and last, air dates are disputed but generally accepted as September 19, 1952 and April 28, 1958. The show's first two seasons (ep. 1-52) were filmed in black-and-white while seasons three through six (ep. 53-104) were filmed in color. George Reeves plays Clark Kent/Superman with Jack Larson as Jimmy Olsen, John Hamilton as Perry White, and Robert Shayne as Inspector Henderson. Phyllis Coates plays Lois Lane in the first season with Noel Neill stepping into the role in the second season (1953). Stories follow Superman as he battles crooks, gangsters, and other villains in the fictional city of Metropolis while masquerading "off-duty" as Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent. Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, Clark's colleagues at the office, often find themselves in dangerous situations which can only be resolved with Superman's timely intervention. Opening sequence; Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! ("Look! Up in the sky!" "It's a bird!" "It's a plane!" "It's Superman!")... Yes, Superman ... strange visitor from another planet, who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men! Superman ... who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who, disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered ...

Pathe Disque

This is a nine and a half inch [approx 245mm] 'Pathe Disque' being played on the correct style of wind up Pathe gramophone. The title is 'La Troika' The record number is 7854. This is what is known as a 'Hill and Dale' recording due to the cutting stylus moving in a vertical direction [Edison] rather than the lateral cut [wavy line] that we are all so familiar with. Oh..Its not a trick...the record really does play from the inside out.... The reason for this I believe was due to the general composition of music starting quietly and then building up to the finish. With conventional recordings all this 'modulation' had to be crammed into the very small area of grooves at the end of a record. Pathe records being recorded in reverse allowed much more room due to the extra area of groove space at the beginning..! Anyway that's my explanation. The records have a wax like feel to them rather like the conventional Columbia recordings of the late 20's early 30's. another little quirk in the history of sound recording. Hope you find it interesting. J.

The Diving Bell And The Butterfly Trailer - 8th Feb - Pathe

On December 8 1995 at 43, Jean-Dominique Bauby, inventive and charismatic editor in chief of the French magazine Elle suffered a massive stroke and his brain stem was rendered inactive, his life was changed forever. After lapsing into a coma, he awoke 20 days later to find himself the victim of locked-in syndrome - mentally alert but a prisoner inside his own body, his only means of communicating with the outside world the blinking of his left eye. Forced to adjust to this unique perspective, Bauby created a new rich world for looking into himself to find the only two things that weren't paralyzed, his imagination and his memory. At The Maritime Hospital in Berck-Sur-Mer, in Nord Pas de Calais France he was taught an alphabet, a code in the order of the most frequently used letters in the French alphabet. Letter by letter, painstakingly words, sentences and paragraphs tell the story of a profound adventure into the human psyche and into the battle between life and death. This alphabet unlocked the prison of Jean-Dominique's body which he called his Diving Bell and travelled the borderless regions of freedom that he called The Butterfly.
