Philippine Airlines (RP-C7473) Boeing 747-400 Emergency landing at LAX

A Philippine Airlines jumbo jet declared an emergency because of a possible blown tire, but the plane was able to land safely at Los Angeles International Airport. The pilot initially descended to a low altitude so a police helicopter could inspect the tire's condition, then pulled up again and circled before landing. The Boeing 747 then touched down smoothly around 9 pm Friday. The aircraft idled on the runway as fire trucks and other ground crews surrounded it. It turns out that two tires had blown. An airport spokeswoman said 400 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard the plane.

"Thriller" (original upload)

Update: 1/29/01 Video can be viewed worldwide except in Germany. Why "Thriller" ? visit: byronfgarcia.com 1500 plus CPDRC inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center, Cebu, Philippines at practice! This is not the final routine, and definitely not a punishment! WHY THRILLER? What made me choose Michael Jackson's Thriller for the aerobics routine is that Michael Jackson was a convicted man to the eyes of those who hated him. He would have been in imprisoned had it not been for settlement arrangements, they would say. Still Michael Jackson's frailty as a human being makes him like one of us -- whether one is a prisoner or not. I saw in the lyrics and video of Thriller much of what jail culture is like. Because of the hideous conditions in jails, prisons are like tombs and inmates are like ghoulish creatures. The only difference is that dancers in the MJ Thriller video come with make-up and costumes. The Dancing Inmates come as themselves. People perceived to be evil. The message of the Thriller is a message for all of us. The funk of forty thousand years embedded in the cycle of sin and punishment is a legacy no mere mortal can resist or is capable of resisting. No prison wall can and will stop evil from lurking in the dark. No shackle can stop the beast about to strike. No punitive or brutal treatment is ever too strong to stop creatures crawling in search of blood. Unless we stop breeding demons in jails, gruesome ghouls from every tomb will seal ...

Philippine SWAT storm bus with hostages in Manila

Philippine commandos have stormed the bus with 15 Chinese tourists held hostage by a former policeman, ending the 11-hour standoff in Manila. Eight of the hostages have been confirmed dead. The gunman has also been killed in the storming. The operation started with police firing on the bus' tires to immobilize it, then using hammers to smash windows, doors and windscreen. They were forced to withdraw after a series of hunshots rang out from inside the vehicle, but renewed the storming later.

Philippines moves to green transportation

The Philippines, like many other countries, is turning to green energy as the price of oil remains high. Right now, the country almost entirely depends on petroleum when it comes to transportation. But as Marga Ortigas reports from Manila, the Philippine capital, the government has very ambitious goals to combat rampant pollution and avoid high fuel costs with new electric vehicles that provide public transportation.

US MILITARY PRESENCE IN SULU, PHILIPPINES PART 1 OF 2

PART 1 A video by Focus on the Global South, a policy research institute, on the constant presence of US forces in the country since January 2002, particularly in Mindanao whether or not there were scheduled Balikatan exercises. The contingent of US Special Operations Forces (SOFs) maintained in the country are not exactly "ordinary" troops as they are considered as the elite unit of the US military specializing in covert missions. The Focus on the Global South report is also now in video-documentary format, which had its first public screening in Manila at the University of the Philippines. The video was first shown in Jolo, Sulu last February 10, 2007. Probing allegations of US military involvement in the war in Sulu, regarded as the stronghold of the Moro National Liberation Front and the Abu Sayyaf Group, the documentary contradicts American and Philippine officials' oft-repeated claim that the US troops are never involved in combat. It zooms in on one particular operation in which US troops were said to have joined Filipino soldiers in their offensives against the MNLF. The video also contextualizes the issue of US military presence in the country within the long and bitter history of conflict in the south, examining the historical conditions that led to the emergence of the Moro separatist movement and the subsequent rise of the Abu Sayyaf. History Project Song: Yoyoy Villame - Magellan Lyrics: On March Sixteen Fifteen Hundred Twenty One When Philippines was discovered by Magellan They were sailing day and night Across the big ocean Until they saw a small Limasawa island. Magellan landed in Limasawa at noon The people met him very welcome on the shore They did not understand The speaking they have done Because Kastila gid at Waray-Waray man When Magellan landed in Cebu City Rajah Humabon met him they were very happy All people were baptized And built the church of Christ And that's the beginning of our Catholic life When Magellen visited in Mactan To Christianize them everyone But Lapu-Lapu met him on the shore And drive Magellan to go back home Then Magellan got so mad Ordered his men to camouflage "Mactan Island we could not grab Cause Lapu-Lapu is very hard" Then the battle began at dawn Bolos and spears versus guns and cannons When Magellan was hit on his neck He stumble down and cried and cried "Oh mother, mother, I am sick Call the doctor very quick Doctor, Doctor shall I die Tell my Mama do not cry Tell my Mama do not cry Tell my Mama do not cry" Resources: commons.wikimedia.org schools-wikipedia.org en.wikipedia.org www.maxitmag.com www.walfrido.com topbanana.wordpress.com goodlett.proteomics.washington.edu theantisocial.wordpress.com www.thorstenconsulting.com www.faithluth.org www.stuckincustoms.com www.dreamstime.com tightbunny.wordpress.com www.seasite.niu.edu www.warriorseskrima.com taclobanon ...
