The Philosophy of Liberty

When you hear Ron Paul say that he stands for the Philosophy of Liberty, this is what he means. The philosophy of liberty is based on self-ownership. This simple but elegant and hard-hitting animation will explain exactly what that means. It's a great tool anyone can use to educate children and adults about our right to life, liberty, and the property we create - and our responsibility to think, speak and act. Anthony Kenny on Medieval Philosophy: Section 1

Medieval Philosophy: Thomas Aquinas This program examines the ideas of the medieval philosophic theologians, particularly St. Thomas Aquinas. Oxford medieval philosopher Anthony Kenny discusses Aristotelian logic as the basis of Aquinas' thought, and disputes charges that medieval philosophy merely reinforced extant Christian views. Logical methods employed by Aquinas are discussed as precursors of the scientific methodology of later philosophers, such as Descartes.

Philosophy, Logic And Reason

Science & Reason on Facebook: tinyurl.com Stephen Fry @ BigThink: Philosophy, Logic And Reason. --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.YouTube.com • www.YouTube.com • www.YouTube.com • www.YouTube.com --- Interview Transcript Question: What philosophers influenced you? Stephen Fry: Philosophy is an odd thing. When we use the word in everyday speech you know you sometimes hear it hilariously. They say, Oh, its never good to be late. Thats my philosophy. You think thats a generous description of that rather dull precept to call it a philosophy, but its odd how philosophers generally speaking, at least the ones Ive read or the ones I you know value, dont have in that sense a philosophy. There is no particular Socratic or Nietzschean or Kantian way to live your life. They dont offer ethical codes and standards by which to live your life. They dont offer a philosophy to follow. They just simply raise an enormous number of questions mostly, so in the sense that you put the question is there a philosopher thats important to me. Well I me I loved really the sort of the Bertrand Russell grand sort of tour of philosophy, the history of philosophy from the pre Socratics as they're called, Zeno and so on through to Socrates and Plato and Aristotle. I never quite liked Aristotle. I think thats partly... Although he was obviously a genius and brilliant and he invented logic, so whats not to like. I think it was his influence on the medieval mind was probably rather pernicious ...

The book explores the movie's key questions and themes, including how we can tell if we're dreaming or awake, how to make sense of a paradox, and whether or not inception is possible. It also gives new insights into the nature of free will, time, dreams, and the unconscious mind. In addition, it discusses different interpretations of the film, and whether or not philosophy can help shed light on which is the "right one,' and deepens your understanding of the movie's multi-layered plot and dream-infiltrating characters, including Dom Cobb, Arthur, Mal, Ariadne, Eames, Saito, and Yusuf. Philosophy of Time part 1 of 3

Leading philosophers including William Lane Craig, Quentin Smith, Paul Ricoeur, David Hugh Mellor, and Michael Friedman discuss time. Topics include the nature of space and time, the reality or unreality of time, Einstein's special theory of relativity, the A-theory and B-theory of time, whether the present enjoys a privileged status, and whether temporal becoming is merely an illusion.

How to Make Your Own Philosopher's Stone

Also known as White Powder Gold or "Manna" or the elixer of life. Discoverer David Hudson spoke in a lecture... "First of all, it is a room temperature superconductor! When mixed with water it forms a gelatinous mixture... (The following description of paranormal effects was derived from descriptions by independent researchers other than myself. Paranormal effects are individual and depend on a person's own inherent abilites for higher consciousness:) When ingested it has the following effects: Every cell in your body (returns to its original state), from when you were a teenager or a child... It perfects the DNA and closes the light within the body until you literally reach a point where the light body exceeds the physical body... The gifts that go with this are perfect telepathy. You can know good and evil when it is in the room with you. You can project your thoughts into someone else's mind. You can levitate. You can walk on water. Because it is flowing so much light within you, you literally do not attract gravity. Since ancient Egyptian times, alchemists have worked in secret to produce something called the Philosopher's Stone or the Elixer of Life. The materials that Hudson and other researchers have found are believed to be related to the Philosopher's Stone. The materials have been called ORMEs, monatomic gold, white gold, white powder gold, ORMUS, m-state- AuM, microclusters, and manna. Scientific Thinking And Moral Philosophy

Science & Reason on Facebook: tinyurl.com Richard Dawkins @ Big Think: While science is indelibly distinct from the field of ethics, Richard Dawkins believes that there are a number of ways in which its facts and reasoning could greatly benefit our ability to understand and repair the worlds suffering. --- Please subscribe to Science & Reason: • www.YouTube.com • www.YouTube.com • www.YouTube.com • www.YouTube.com --- Question: Can science shed light on any moral issues? Richard Dawkins: Science is not in the business of shedding light on moral debates, but I think it can do sometimes -- the whole subject of moral philosophy, of examining moral questions in a logical way to expose inconsistencies, for example. When you're looking at moral questions, so-called moral questions, like abortion or euthanasia, you can show that people who take a very strong absolutist line may be being inconsistent with themselves because they are taking a strong line on one thing while at the same time inconsistently not taking a similarly strong line on another. So that would be a scientific way of thinking; it's not science per se. It's moral philosophy, but it's a kind of scientific way of thinking. But also I think scientific facts can illuminate moral debate. In the case of abortion again, for example, a scientist might contribute to the debate information about at what point during the development of an embryo the nervous system comes into being. And presumably, before the nervous system ...

Miles Burnyeat on Plato: Section 1

The dialogues of Plato are analyzed in this program by Cambridge philosophy professor Miles Burnyeat. Seeing Plato's ideas initially as extensions of those of his teacher, Socrates, Burnyeat explains the development and content of Plato's original; doctrines of knowledge as virtue, the immortality and tripartite division of the soul, and the theory of forms (ideas). Plato's political philosophy is discussed within the context of the notion of the ideal state—a political utopia ruled by philosopher kings.

PHILOSOPHY: The Writings of Jim Morrison

I go over my favorite quotes of Jim Morrison. Some have wondered why I placed the Lizard King, an American Poet, on my list of philosophers, Gods, and elements which affect my life. Well its because Jim's words probably have impacted me more than any other mans. I place him up there with Plato. Now I know no thoughts are truly new, but Jim took the works of Blake, Huxley, Burroughs, Leary, Nietzsche, etc and put his own views in there and made some amazingly deep comments. Enjoy his words to the music of the Doors, from the Essential Rarities album, here is the Soft Parade (live) UPDATE: Originally I had the Orange Country Suite as the accompaniment, but the Record Companies didn't like that. The new song that is on this is Dax Johnson - A Moment in the life. It is a song from the AudioSwap feature on Youtube.
