A Ride in my 1958 Mercedes Ponton 180 Project
Still have to do ALOT of work. Tires have been sitting with 4000lbs on them for 12 years so they shimmy a bit, I plan on getting white walls. The bottom half of the car will be like a metallic looking blue and then the top will be white. Chrome is getting all redone. Took me acouple weeks to get it running. Has Nissan Motor in it. I have the original Mercedes motor, colmn, and other parts but I dont plan on using them. Interior is new.

Die spannende Frage dabei: Wie verhält sich ein Modell aus dem Jahr 1957 in einem Crashtest, der erst 40 Jahre später, im Jahr 1997, eingeführt worden war? Die Konfiguration sieht vor, dass ein Fahrzeug mit 64 km/h seitlich versetzt gegen eine deformierbare Barriere gefahren wird - eine extrem hohe Beanspruchung für die Karosserie-Struktur. Hiermit wird recht praxisnah der seitlich versetzte Frontalunfall im Gegenverkehr simuliert. Diesen Anforderungen musste sich auch der kleine Ponton (180er) stellen. Abweichend vom üblichen EuroNcap-Verfahren waren Fahrer- und Beifahrerplatz allerdings nicht mit einem Dummy mit Sensoren besetzt. Dies ergab sich daraus, dass das Risiko einer Beschädigung der extrem teuren Messpuppen als sehr hoch einzuschätzen war - schon deshalb, weil der Ponton nicht über Sicherheitsgurte verfügte.
