Mahavishnu's Maddest Moment 1975 (1974 video)

10 minutes of musical insanity, the heights of which will probably never be reached again. This is from the last days of the 1970's Mahavishnu Orchestra/s - but I'm keeping the exact date a secret. Anybody who manages to locate the original audio file will be truly disappointed by the sound - this was a big clean-up job. The speed of JML's solo at 2:05 made me start... Though not titled, this is the last 1970s MO lineup: - John McLaughlin (guitar + guitar synthesiser at 7:50); - Stu Goldberg (piano/keys + other synth at 8:02); - Ralphe Armstrong (fretless bass + fuzz/wah at 5:10); and - Narada Michael Walden (percussion). Don't be fooled by who's shown as playiing - though I did try to (roughly) match the 'scenes'. My home: www.myspace.com
Urs Fischer Marguerite de Ponty, at the New Museum

James Kalm braves fall showers and trains his way to the Bowerys New Museum for the first major museum exhibition by Urs Fischer. Lionized as one of contemporary arts most distinctive talents, Fischer earned the New York spotlight in 2007 by cutting a hole in the floor of Gavin Browns Enterprise and digging out tons of dirt leaving a gapping crater for visitors to climb into and explore. As an astute observer of spatial perception, and a master of digital technology with a mischievous sense of humor, the artist uses the most advanced commercial printing techniques to tweak space and challenge reality. Controversies surrounding the extraordinary costs of the installation are addressed by the Director of special Exhibitions Massimiliano Gioni. Includes an interview with Paddy Johnson of Art Fag City.

Jean-Luc Ponty 1988, Egocentric Molecules

JLP Live in Santiago 1988 with: Baron Brown, Rayford Griffin, Wally Minko and Jamie Glaser. The video rights and music track belong to their owners. A note about your concern of the sound quality of this video. When this concert was aired in '88 a friend of mine recorded it in a standard mono VHS recorder. Although I made a copy using my dad's hifi VHS recorder that year nothing was at hand to improve the sound quality. Before uploading to Youtube I took the time to remove the hiss and to improve the equalization a bit. I would have chosen to keep this tape stored but decided to share this rare treasure with those the music belongs to: the audience. I was there and it was thrilling to see the masters play live for the very first time. Let the music talk.

Ponty Pool Official Trailer [HD]

Rated: NR Director: Bruce McDonald Writer: Tony Burgess Genre: Horror | Thriller Plot: "The film is set in a radio station in Pontypool where one day the morning team starts taking reports of extreme, bloody incidents of violence occurring in town. As the story unfolds, the radio staff soon realizes the violence that is ripping society apart is due to a virus being spread through the English language. That in turn poses a problem for a yappy radio jock and his staff holed up in the broadcast booth housed in the basement of the town's abandoned church as a slaughter rages beyond its walls. -Horror_Fan01 Pontypool was adapted from the novel Pontypool Changes Everything by Tony Burgess, who also wrote the screenplay. The story is about "Shock jock" Grant Mazzy who has, once again, been kicked-off the Big City airwaves and now works at the only job he could get hosting the early morning show at CLSY Radio in Pontypool Ontario, which broadcasts from the basement of the small town's only church. What begins as another boring day of school bus cancellations due to yet another massive snow storm, things quickly turn deadly when reports of people having bizarre seizures, developing strange speech patterns and evoking horrendous acts of violence start piling in. Before long, Grant and the small staff at CLSY find themselves trapped in the radio station as they discover that this insane behaviour taking over the town is actually a deadly virus being spread through the English ...

Jean-Luc Ponty

Milesian electric freedom, with a european softness. Joachim Kühn is madder than Keith! Oliver Johnson shows he's a happening drummer right up there with Jack, and Jean-Luc Ponty does some hip middleeastern phrasing. And what's that weird looking guitar Philip Catherine is playing? 1972

Jean Luc Ponty - How Would You Like (to Have a Head Like That) (1969)

AMG: Leave it to England's BGO to reissue Jean-Luc Ponty's finest recording session under his own name. Apparently, Blue Note can't be bothered to do this on CD in the homeland. Canteloupe Island was recorded in 1969 while Ponty was with Frank Zappa. This set includes five Zappa originals. The composer participated, as did several of his past and present Mothers of Invention including Ian Underwood and George Duke. In the 21st century, this music is some of the best that fusion had to offer. It's lyrical, warm, fantastically performed, and it's got plenty of heart and soul. It contains Zappa's sense of humor and incredible harmonic vocabulary, Ponty's fiery technique and soulful playing, intensely gifted rhythm sections with Arthur III Tripp on drums, bassist Wilton Felder, and Duke, of course, playing electric piano throughout. Zappa's fine compositions include "King Kong," "Idiot Bastard Son," "Twenty Small Cigars," "America Drinks and Goes Home," and the classic "Music for Electric Violin and Low Budget Orchestra," the latter conducted by Underwood. Zappa makes an appearance on electric guitar for Ponty's "How Would You Like to Have a Head Like That," which was deeply inspired by Zappa's knotty, quirky lead lines. Ponty's soloing throughout is hot; it is based in blues and the 20th century classical tradition, and he reaches the extremes of both poles until he finds a way to knit them together. LA saxophonist Ernie Watts burns here, pulling out his toughest, most ...
