This is the final project for my Advanced Mechatronics class at Penn State University. The robot is the skeleton of a turret from the game Portal that uses an IP webcam to track a target and fire nerf bullets at them. This is the current state of the robot as of 5/9/12, but I am currently molding a shell for the frame to make it look like the Portal turret, along with improving my code to make the tracking faster. All programming is done with MATLAB and Arduino. Enjoy!

The most fun I've had with an Easter egg in a while. Not a bad skill either, at least with idols turned off. As for how to get this, it was in the Arsenal, under the skills menu when I started my New Game+. I assume all you have to do is start a New Game+. I do own Portal and Portal 2, although I doubt they would make this exclusive to owners of those games. It is, however, exclusive to the Steam version of Bastion. I know it looks like I'm on the Xbox if you look at the HUD, but I'm just using an Xbox controller to play.

I made a Portal Turret for my Halloween pumpkin! I was trying to think of things to carve: vampire Android? R2-D2? Zoidberg? Then I thought: I could do a character from Portal 2! I was going to carve something like GLaDOS or Wheatley, but then I realized that a turret would be perfect. I made a small hole, taped an LED to a battery, and inserted the LED through the small hole to get the red glowing effect.

Not sure if anyone saw this on Kotaku a few months ago, instructions on how to make your own Portal turret out of Lego! Well anyway, I bought 2 lots of all the parts, one for me and one for my bro. Took 3 orders in total from BrickLink, sellers all have different parts, so couldn't get it in one order. Cost about £20 total for both. They look awesome, a little flimsy in places, but fine once you have them placed on your desk etc. Would recommend anyone to have a go at building one, when was the last time you played with Lego?? Apologies for the low quality. Internet was being LAME. Right, So here was my mid year exam project for my Digital Arts Honours course! First semester was in interactivity! The turret itself isn't very pretty, I'd love to make a more convincing one when I find the time... Problem is I focused more on the coding! She has three modes: Sentry, Chatter and Sing. Sentry mode enables her to act like she would in the game, sans the ability to shoot you... She reacts to motion in front of her, choosing a random line from the game appropriate to the action ("There you are" "I see you" "Preparing to dispense product"). If there is no movement in front of her for a given amount of time she then picks random expressions from the game once again ("Shutting down" "Sleep mode activated" "I don't hate you"). If you were to manage to sneak up on her and make a loud noise near her she will exclaim as the game versions do when you pick then up (""Hey!" "Illegal operation!" "Uh-oh!"). All in all there are about 15 responses per an operation. Chatter mode allows you to click "Target Sighted" "Target Lost" or "Illegal Operation", playing a random clip from one of those three categories. Finally, Sing Mode will make her sing the famous song from the game, "Still Alive". The code was written in Max 5 using the cv.jit add-on to enable the motion tracking (Go Google it!). The sound and dialogue was found online, as was the song "Still Alive". The song used in this video was found on the Portal 2 <b>...</b>

This time, I make an advertisement for sound pack I've made for Team Fortress 2, my absolute favorite game. Since this was taken down from FPSBanana, I'm uploading it on Megaupload, since they don't really care what's on there, as long as it isn't illegal. In the readme.txt that follows with the zip, I have listed all the modded sounds for easy recognition in case there is a sound that annoys you. This way you know which one, and you have easy access to delete it. And you'll probably not see much more ingame footage from TF2, since this footage is the best I can get for now. A LEGO version of the turrets from Portal, complete with sounds and guns. I built this from my own mind, with the exception of the ball shooter from nxtprograms.com. It not only works, but looks like a turret too, with the guns on the sides, the color lamp laser, and the "round" armor plates. It also has a working gun, opening armor, actual droid sounds from Portal. It knows if you're there or not, and knows when it falls over.
