JOY DIVISION-Transmission

Joy Division was an English rock band that formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. With their dark, cavernous sound and use of synthesizers and electronics, they pioneered the post-punk sound of the late 1970s and the early 1980s. The band dissolved in May 1980 after the suicide of its lead singer, Ian Curtis. The remaining members reformed as New Order and went on to achieve much critical and commercial success.
LiLiPUT -EISIGER WIND (1981)

The women of early 80's PostPunk! (See also the video: "X-RAY SPEX -DAY THE WORLD TURNED DAY-GLO (1978)" ) The spirit of Punk was to try anything without restraint. As soon as it became a recognizable formula -as in Sid- the media rushed to pronounce it dead after two years. But in truth it had already mutated past them. Worldwide, a new attitude virused: challenge everything, try it from another angle, go to next. The word PostPunk is a loose term used to describe the eclectic electric that ensued from 1978 to around 1982. Punk wasn't supplanted, it was the planter of the seeds that grew into most cutting edge music made since. The holy trinity of 'Joy Division/Wire/Gang Of Four', bands from the dawn of the 80's, are the obvious blueprint for modern disciples like Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, She Wants Revenge, Radio 4, The Killers, and Elefant; the bounding deadpan-yet-funky pulse, the polyrhymic crack of drums, the sheets-of-noise guitar, and the wired automaton vocals. But PostPunk was more than that trio. It encompassed world musics and Dub, Punk-Funk, Death Disco, No Wave noise, Mutant Disco, proto-Industrial, Goth, HipHop hybrids, skronky jazz fusion and Harmolodics, and more. And most importantly, there were more women in this revolution than any time before in Rock history. The following women are the mothers of most rocker grrrls today. All of this music was too intense for the times and ignored, but now is the soundtrack of the current generation. Whether they ...

This in depth look at punk rock, new wave, experimental music, and the avant-garde art movement of the 70s and 80s focuses on the true architects of No Wave from James Chance to Lydia Lunch to Glenn Branca, as well as the luminaries that intersected the scene, such as David Byrne, Debbie Harry, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, and Richard Hell. In this Video, Thurston Moore and Byron Coley spend 12 minutes taking us back to that very special time in New York...

Top 10 (indie) rock songs - My choice! Indie, alternative, post punk, WHATEVER

EDIT: For those who are interested in downloading the 'Youth' song from the Dutch band Kensington: itunes.apple.com Alrighty then, these are my favorite songs from a certain genre I usually listen to. Could probably be described the best as 'indie rock'. I don't care if the term 'indie' is misused (As in some of these bands being part of a major recordlabel, I just don't give a crap so keep those comments to yourself).. If you disagree or agree or whatever, feel free to comment =). Tell me what you think ^^ 10. The Courteeners - Not nineteen forever 9. Kensington - Youth 8. Foals - Balloons 7. The Subways - Burst 6. The Chameleons - Soul in Isolation

from Wikipedia: "The Chameleons (called The Chameleons UK on some American releases) were a dream pop/post-punk band that formed in Middleton, in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England in 1981 (see 1981 in music). They consisted of singer and bassist Mark Burgess, guitarist Reg Smithies, guitarist Dave Fielding, drummer John Lever as well as keyboardists Alistair Lewthwaite and Andy Clegg. Their body of work is still critically acclaimed within the music press and influenced bands as diverse as The Smiths, Protokoll, The Comsat Angels, Puressence, Interpol, Editors.[1] Through Mark Burgess' penetrating vocals and dark and ironic lyrics, their songs often dealt with personal themes of childlike innocence and a reverence for nostalgia. Musically, perhaps most notable in their work was the band's innovative and distinctive use of dual guitar melodies, courtesy of Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding, as opposed to the traditional rhythm-and-lead guitarist format prevalent in rock music even to this day. These arrangements were often characterized by the use of delay and choral effects. The Chameleons' unique sound is quite often compared to U2's The Edge."

Josef K - Heaven Sent

Josef K - Heaven Sent First released as a single back in 1987. Josef K were: - Paul Haig (vocals, guitar) - Malcolm Ross (guitar) - Dave Weddel (bass) - Ronnie Torrance (drums) Lyrics to this awesome song as I understand them: One fine day when I'm away, there'll be a message by the phone. So you'll know just what to say, whenever he calls to ask you home. Oh no, not again, to heaven I will send. Oh no, not again. Limitation to all but one, to come and hear the things you've done, I'll wait arround until they say: "It's all ok on judgement day." Oh no, not again, to heaven I will send. Oh no, not again. Will I get there just in time? Be prepared for what I find? If you're good then its ok. I'll sneak arround and be away. Oh no, not again, to heaven I will send. Oh no, not again. I see you up there flying high, you disappear into the sky. I watch the angels gather round, and then you fall down to the ground. Oh no, not again, to heaven I will send. Oh no, not again. And so the gates were closed to you, and all the time I think I knew. And nevermind maybe they'll send an invitation to try again.
