Be My Friend - www.myspace.com Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. psychologist discusses the difference between psychiatry and psychology. Psychiatry focuses on medical or physical interventions such as drugs, electroshock therapy, deep brain stimulation by electrode, psychosurgery, etc. This is the model of biological psychiatry. Behavior problems are considered to be actual medical illnesses with physical causes despite the fact that after over 100 years of attempts to identify a physical cause for mental illness, there are still none. Often time people are given antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. These medications often time have horrible side effects like agitation and sexual dysfunction. Psychology by contrast acknowledges the potential of behavior problems being learned responses which can be corrected with therapy and communication, education and understanding. There are no cures in psychiatry. Psychiatric medications only suppress or inhibit symptoms of behavior problems. This creates long term mental health consumers who take expensive drugs but never fully recover from their difficulties. Visit Dr. Breedings website at www.wildestcolts.com ...

Why Psychologists Are Infinitely More Dangerous Than Conspiracy Theorists Paul Joseph Watson www.prisonplanet.com Thursday, September 3, 2009 According to a Psychology Today hit piece written by psychologist John Gartner, people prone to thinking that powerful men might actually get together and plan to maintain and advance their power are borderline psychotics who are a danger to society. In reality, hundreds of years of history has taught us that psychologists routinely aid authoritarian regimes in enforcing tyrannical and inhumane policies while helping them crush political opposition by defining suspicion of authorities as a mental illness. As we highlighted in our article yesterday, psychologists in the Soviet Union were used to stifle free speech by classifying skepticism and political opposition to the state as a mental illness, which is precisely the implication littered throughout Gartners crass hit piece. In the former Soviet Union, psikhushkas — mental hospitals — were used by the state as prisons in order to isolate political prisoners, discredit their ideas, and break them physically and mentally. The Soviet state began using mental hospitals to punish dissidents in 1939 under Stalin. According to official Soviet psychiatry and the Moscow Serbsky Institute at the time, ideas about a struggle for truth and justice are formed by personalities with a paranoid structure. Treatment for this special political schizophrenia included various forms of restraint ...

Clinical psychologist Bruce Levine is the author of Common Sense Rebellion and Surviving America's Depression Epidemic. He regularly deals with "anti-authoritarian" clients who would be diagnosed by the health care authorities as suffering from "oppositional defiant disorder" or ADHD, and helps them to deal with adjusting to their societal, work or school environment without rebelling in a self-destructive manner. In a psychiatric context, Levine explains how successful political movements like the American Revolution and the more recent populist uprising are historically led by people who have individual self-respect, something very much lacking in today's society, as well as collective confidence and trust in one another. "When you're living in a society that breaks people's self-respect and breaks their bonds of trust with one another, it makes it very difficult to have any kind of democratic revolutionary movement," remarks Levine. Levine identifies the process of "learned helplessness" as one of the primary factors that has led to society feeling broken, demoralized, hopeless and defeated. He cites an experiment involving dogs where both groups of animals were subjected to electro-shocks, wherein one group of dogs was able to stop the electro-shocks and the other was not. The dogs not able to stop the shocks moved into passivity and depression, and even when presented with the opportunity to escape did not even try to take it because they had learned helplessness ...

Psychology Test - Are you Troubled? The Truth about Mental Disorders and What is Normal? Dr. Breeding, Ph.D. psychologist discusses the concept of normal, this time examining the fact that we seek to compare ourselves to others and sometimes to ourselves. For example, we are too happy, too sad, too busy, not busy enough, etc. Often modern medicine will direct us to drugs such as anti-depressants if we are not happy enough, but Dr. Breeding poses the argument that without a "normal" state to compare to, there is nothing wrong with us at all. Mental health is defined in terms of normal by psychology and psychiatry. If you don't fit into the box, you might be labeled with mental illness. Dr. Breeding reminds us in this video that the mental disorders listed in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical manual of Mental Disorders) are diagnosed subjectively, based solely on emotions and behaviors, NOT with a biological test. Disorders such as bipolar, manic depression, ADHD, ADD, OCD, social anxiety disorder, etc. are voted into existence by the American Psychiatric Association. The underlying assumption of biological psychiatry is that mental illness is biologically based despite the fact that no solid science has been able to identify biological markers for mental illnesses. If we think in terms of troubled or troubling behavior rather than normal/abnormal behavior, we can address what's troubling us without the use of drugs and without accepting that we have a biological ...

www.informedtrades.com A lesson on crowd psychology and how it relates to trading the stock, futures, and forex markets. The best summary that I have seen on this subject, as well as a great book on trading in general is Dr. Alexander Elder's book Trading for a living. As the Trader and Psychologist points out in his book, people think differently when acting as part of a crowd than they do when acting alone. Dr Elder points out that "People change when they join crowds. They become more credulous, impulsive, anxiously search for a leader, and react to emotions instead of using their intellect." In his book Dr. Elder gives several examples of academic studies which have been done which show that people have trouble doing simple tasks such as choosing which line is longer than the other when put in a situation with other people who were instructed to give the wrong answer. Perhaps no where is the strange effect is the psychology of crowds seen than in the financial markets. One of the more recent examples as I have spoken about in my other lessons of the effect that the psychology of crowds can have on the markets is the run-up of the NASDAQ into 2000. As you will find by pulling out the history books however, this is not an isolated incident as financial history is littered with similar price bubbles created and then destroyed in the same way as the NASDAQ bubble was. So why does history continue to repeat itself? As Dr. Elder points out in his book, from a primitive ...

"The Ferrari is exactly the same in the human context," says evolutionary psychologist Gad Saad, "as the peacock's tail is on the peacock." Saad is an evolutionary behavioral scientist at Concordia University and author of the book The Consuming Instinct: What Juicy Burgers, Ferraris, Pornography, and Gift Giving Reveal about Human Nature, in which he argues that most consumer behavior can be explained by evolutionary psychology. Reason.tv's Zach Weissmueller sat down with Saad to discuss why most Ferrari owners are men, whether or not advertising executives manipulate our minds, the strong political opposition to the evolutionary sciences from across the spectrum, and the evolutionary significance of Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back."
