Quarks: Inside the Atom

Matter is all the stuff that we see, feel, and smell around us. By definition, matter has mass and takes up space. Matter includes substances such as water, wood, rock, metal, plastic, and air, as well as countless other materials. All types of matter are made up of tiny particles called atoms. Atoms and the sub-atomic particles they're made of are far too small to be seen, even with the most powerful microscope. Despite this, physicists have developed an understanding of the structure of these particles through experimentation and indirect observation.

QUARK - "MAY THE SOURCE BE WITH YOU" (Pilot)

VISIT: www.sigh7ings.com to watch entire episode! hit the television world on February 24, 1978 like a galaxy-class starship slamming into a Quasi-norm. Quark, NBC's fantastic science-fiction spoof from the mind of Buck Henry, was released about the same time as Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and Battlestar Galactica were making their impact on the science fiction community. The short-lived series featured Richard Benjamin as Adam Quark along with his crazy crew aboard a spacefaring garbage scow.

Quark: The Series - Goodbye Polumbus

A spoof of science fiction films and TV series, these are the adventures of Adam Quark, captain of a United Galactic Sanitation Patrol ship. His cohorts include Gene/Jean, a "transmute" with male and female characteristics; a Vegeton (a highly-evolved plant-man) named Ficus; and Andy the Android and Betty and Betty (who always argue over who's the clone of the other). Based at Space Station Perma One are Otto Palindrome and The Head. Though Quark is supposed to stick to his sanitization patrols, he and his crew often meet adventure with such colorful space denizens as the evil High Gorgon (head of the villainous Gorgons), Zoltar the Magnificent, and Zargon the Malevolent.

Quark Minis: "Awesome Wilderness Lights" by Nutnfancy

They're tiny, lightweight, super bright, and reliable. For me that makes them some of the best "Wilderness Lights" out there. The 4Sevens Mini 123, CR2, and AA single cell lights are reviewed in this Nutnfancy flashlight video. At a whopping 189 OTF Lumens and good burn times, the 1.4 oz Mini 123 is my favorite (it also has an wonderful area-flooding beam pattern). It excels in tent illumination (just hang from gear loop!), camp lighting duties, and even serious search functions. You will be blown away by its flood of light which seems almost impossible coming from single cell torch. The tiny 1.0 oz Mini CR2 makes a great EDC light, burning for 4.4 hrs on its 40 Lumen Medium mode. It carries invisibly in your daily system and is the best choice for keychains. If battery availability is a concern, then you might want to opt for the still small and lightweight Mini AA (also 1.4 oz) that has a 90 Lumen Max mode (akaline cell). Also note with the Mini AA version: if you run "AW" brand #14500 IC-protected cells in your Mini AA it will transform the light into a mini searchlight (wow!). However the 14500 3.7 Volt 750 mah power source runs the light hard in High mode and results in more heat (could be good if you need the heat). The usually hidden but still easily accessed special modes are very useful in the Wilderness light POU as well: SOS, Strobe, High and Low Beacon modes. Expect the beacon modes to be very useful for finding your tent (boat, campsite, stranded person ...

www.facebook.com ... Complexity (Chapter 3): From Quarks To Molecules --- Please SUBSCRIBE to Science & Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com --- QUARKS-NEUCLEONS There are two kinds of quarks (physicists call them flavors of quarks) that are found in normal matter These quarks are the UP quark and the DOWN quark. A proton is formed from two up quarks and one down quark while its slightly heavier cousin, the neutron, is formed from two down quarks and one up quark. The red, green, and blue colors of the quarks represent a property that attracts them to one another ... it is this color-charge property of the quarks that holds them together in a proton or neutron. NUCLEUS These protons and neutrons can then combine to form the nucleus of each element in the periodic table. One proton in the nucleus makes hydrogen, two form helium, 6 carbon, 8 oxygen, 79 is gold and 92 uranium. Neutrons help hold the protons together. Because of their electric charge, protons would repel each other more strongly if neutrons were not present, and the heavier elements would come apart. There are approximately as many neutrons in each element as there are protons. ELECTRON SHELLS Atoms are formed when the positively charged protons in the nucleus capture negative electrons. Neutral atoms have captured one negative electron for each positive proton in the nucleus. So Hydrogen has one electron to go with its one proton, Helium two electrons, Carbon has 6, Oxygen 8, Gold ...

Baths and Quarks: Solitons explained

In 'Baths and Quarks', theoretical physics expert David Tong explains solitons and their effect on quarks and protons. 'Solitons' -- solitary waves which can be seen as bubble rings in the bath -- make it impossible for quarks and protons to be separated, thus holding together the universe, he says. "Baths would be so much more relaxing if they weren't so interesting. Bubble rings - there's something strange and unnatural about these objects - so structural where you wouldn't expect to see structure. When I get out of the bath and pull the plug, there's a world of water that drains away - a vortex - it's very similar to the bubble rings, and objects like these may just hold the key to one of the most important problems in particle physics [relating to quarks and protons]. My name is David Tong. My job is to understand the beautiful things that I see in the world around me. But to describe them properly, I have to understand them in the language in which nature is written."

Quark Turbo Flashlights: "Weapon Light Standard" by Nutnfancy

You can get totally ripped off when you go a buy a dedicated "weapon light." Some guys might be able to justify a $200-500 expense on ONE gun light but I cannot. Buyer beware: pricing on such lights is ludicrous and an outgrowth of marketing hype and strategy ("hey we're expensive because we're cool!"). Enter the 4Sevens "Quark Turbo" flashlights (and their successors) which pretty much divide this competition asunder. That's because these are extremely capable, lightweight, compact, tough, and relatively affordable lighting products that will impress you with their performance. The Quark 123 Turbo is my favorite (in weapon light POU): it weighs a svelt 3.6 oz and cranks out up to 230 lumens from it's programmable UI. The AA Turbo is not far behind at 205 Lumens but is a bit longer due to AA power cell use and weighs in at about 5.5 oz with rechargeables. The 123 Turbo accepts the AW IC-protected 1600 mah 17650 rechargeable cell but a more powerful 2600mah18650 won't fit (upgrade to a Quark 18650 body, purchased separately; battery types and technologies will also change). Both feature the programmable Quark "Tacitical" interface which allows two mode choices: tight bezel position and loose bezel positions (primary and secondary modes). The modes include: 0.2 lumen Moonlight (very useful), 4 lumen Low, 22 lumen Medium, 85 lumen high, and 230 lumen (205 lumen AA) Max, SOS, Strobe, and Beacon modes. This UI does lack ultimate versatility but offers mode memorization and ...

Quark Mini AA2: "Gift of Light" by Nutnfancy

It's compact, super lightweight, and it throws a perfect beam. That's the Quark Mini AA Squared. It is one of the smallest two cell AA flashlights in the world. But don't let the small size and 2.8 ounces fool you. It's extremely capable and it's a world class torch. Extensive year long testing in TNP revealed this light to be tough and reliable as well. It passed multiple water testing excursions and it showed no leakage or failures, even with UI use and extended submergence. The 6000 series aluminum body is black anodized and knurled (which could be made more aggressive). A strong deep carry pocket clip stays on, doesn't rotate, and it keeps the light from rolling off the table. It's the best pocket clip I've seen on a flashlight to date. The flat tail cap allows for tailstanding illumination and the included lanyard can attach there too. Modes, brightness levels, and burn times are discussed in the vid. The Quark Mini AA2 with its LOP reflector and XP-G R5 LED throws a perfect beam: no artifacts, a perfect spill, and ideal area coverage. It is one of the best I've seen in small EDC lights. Other LED versions have been and will be issued with upgrades to the Mini AA2 but I've been very happy with the R5's performance. POUs are numberous for this size efficient light: backpacking, medical, EDC, law enforcement, home use, survival kit integration, and AWESOME gift are just a few. Modern Quantum Theory Quark (a "song")

My final project for SPU 20... Lyrics: I am the very model of a modern quantum theory quark, I make up everything you know from minerals to Tony Stark Think of the smallest thing you can, I'm smaller than an atom's parts To understand me, Harvard kid, you'll have to use all of your smarts Let's start off with the basics, you know atoms are the building blocks Inside the atom, protons, neutrons, and electrons, not a shock But let's go smaller, shall we, to the really fundamental bits To quarks, force carriers, and leptons, see what you can make of it. Let's start with quarks, they're particles, not characters from DS9 There are six flavors, they're in pairs, know all of them and you'll be fine There's up and down, and charm and strange, and top and bottom, that's all six These particles are fundamental, take that with an asterisk Now quarks have charge, but here's the thing, that charge is not an integer For up and charm and top, just know it is a positive two thirds For down and strange and bottom it's one third but it is negative. For each of these the anti version's charge is plus or minus switched. Quarks come in hadrons only, these are little groups of two or three The groups of two and three are mesons, baryons respectively A proton is a baryon, a neutron is a baryon But a quark and anti-quark's a meson, now it's time to carry on Now on to leptons, you'll find there are only six of those to see Each neutrino and matching lepton make up lepton families The negative 1 ...

Quark Mini AA: "Finger Sized Searchlight" by Nutnfancy

You can run your tiny Quark Mini AA on a #14500 rechargeable lithium-ion power cell. Unlike some other models, the Mini AA runs in direct drive of this power cell and as such achieves amazing brightness levels (around 260 lumens from one AA power cell!). However this is not an approved 4Sevens power source for this light (as it can overheat the emitter head) and it will void the warranty. Don't expect to see this spec on the 4Sevens website; it's an unapproved upgrade. In testing the Mini AA with a "AW" brand 14500 cell I find the light undergoes an amazing transformation: expect around 260 lumens (maybe more, then stabilizes at a somewhat dimmer output) to come crankin' out of the tiny light. Yesore heat will be generated but as long as you limit the time you use the Max brightness levels, the light handles it just fine (especially in subzero temperatures as shown here). PWM hum is noted in Low and Medium output levels but reaches inaudible levels on High mode. This Mini AA version has the still excellent XP-G LED emitter, as previously reviewed. Burn times were not measured but I think will be comparable to other power cells. Also keep in mind, the little AA light passed my harsh drop tests with flying colors, is totally waterproof, and only weighs 1.4 ounces! With the rechargeable, IC-protected 14500 cell however, it is a cheap, lightweight way to transform the outstanding MIni AA into a finger-sized wilderness searchlight. //////////////////////// Nutnfancy Likability ...

Quarks make proton and neutron History of the UNIVERSE p+ to carbon-12-2

Two "up" and one "down" quark makes the proton. Astronomers don't tell you that the sun has to make a proton into a "new"-tron to make helium (twice for the helium 'alpha' particle...this is the Reaction via annihilation that creates and releases the majority of the energy....matter anti-matter makes the Energy photon, {gamma ray in this case} from the positron ...). I show how the up quark becomes a down quark ... (two down quarks and one up quark in the neutron). After helium, the triple alpha process makes the carbon-12 adding another helium alpha particle makes the oxygen-16. This happens in the red stars (but astronomers say "red is cooler"... BUT only on the outside of these massive solar 'Element Fusers'. Thus all matter that we know in everyday life is from protons, neutrons, and electrons. This is GREAT for learning fractions, by the charges on a "p+" and a "n0"(neutron)!!!!

Protons and neutrons are made of Quarks

A quark (play /ˈkwɔrk/ or /ˈkwɑrk/) is an elementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter. Quarks combine to form composite particles called hadrons, the most stable of which are protons and neutrons, the components of atomic nuclei.[1] Due to a phenomenon known as color confinement, quarks are never directly observed or found in isolation; they can only be found within hadrons.[2][3] For this reason, much of what is known about quarks has been drawn from observations of the hadrons themselves. There are six types of quarks, known as flavors: up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom.[4] Up and down quarks have the lowest masses of all quarks. The heavier quarks rapidly change into up and down quarks through a process of particle decay: the transformation from a higher mass state to a lower mass state. Because of this, up and down quarks are generally stable and the most common in the universe, whereas charm, strange, top, and bottom quarks can only be produced in high energy collisions (such as those involving cosmic rays and in particle accelerators). Quarks have various intrinsic properties, including electric charge, color charge, spin, and mass. Quarks are the only elementary particles in the Standard Model of particle physics to experience all four fundamental interactions, also known as fundamental forces (electromagnetism, gravitation, strong interaction, and weak interaction), as well as the only known particles whose electric charges are not integer ...
