Procession of the Black Nazarene - Quiapo, Philippines,

www.worldhistoryclass.com The procession of the Black Nazarene is the largest procession in the Philippines. This gathering of Catholic followers from all around the country comes to Manila, the capital of the Philippines, to take part in this event. The procession takes place twice a year, on January 9th, and Good Friday and dates back to the 17th century. This video was taken the Friday before January 9th. The statue of the Black Nazarene was bought by a priest in Mexico and brought to the Philippines in 1606. The devotees of the faith believe that after touching the Black Nazarene a miracle will result. During the procession, men parade the life size statue in the streets barefoot as a sign of humility Why is the statue black? Well, some say the statue caught on fire during its trip to Manila. As a result, it was charred. Even though it was burned the statue was kept and housed in the church. The statue is kept in the Saint John the Baptist Church in Quiapo, where it has been housed since 1787.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: Genesis 3:5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Quiapo Procession of the Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno 2011

A partial clip of the more than 1 million devotees who flocked to Quiapo yesterday January 9, 2011 for the 404th Feast Day of the Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno. Despite all the frenzy and the shouting, no one is fighting here. Everyone just wanted to touch the Nazareno or the rope that is pulling the carossa. Hundreds were injured though while trying to jockey for position.

Topic: The reasons why God does not listen to the prayer of a man James 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Quiapo Black Nazarene

Quiapo Fiesta 2010

The procession, and the accompanying Feast of the Black Nazarene. The Black Nazarene is a life-sized statue of Christ that a priest bought in Mexico and brought to Manila in 1606. Since 1787 the statue has been housed at Saint John the Baptist Church in Quiapo. For more than 200 years the church has been placing the statue on a gilded carriage every January and pulling it through the streets of Quiapo. People who touch it are reported to sometimes be healed of diseases. Catholics come from all over Manila on the chance that they will be able to get close enough to touch the image and perhaps receive a miracle. They also throw towels to the police who guard the statue and ask them to rub the towel on the statue in hopes of carrying some of that power away with them... The Philippines is the only country in Asia where Roman Catholics make up a majority of the population.
