Kibaki Succession: Raila Odinga

THE KIBAKI SUCCESSION: Focus on PM Raila Odinga On our Kibaki succession series, we put Prime Minister Raila Odinga who has in the recent past been very much in the spotlight firmly under the microscope tonight. Will it be 2012 or never for the Prime Minister as far as his chances of ascending to power go? Well, analysts and even recent opinion polls say he is the man to beat. Odinga is a man many love to hate. His critics are as eloquent in their dislike as his supporters are in their praise. Our associate editor Alex Chamwada spent time with the Prime Minister at his Karen residence and where Odinga spoke of his chances.

Despite opinion pollsters placing him as the man to beat in next year's polls, Odinga's political rivals plot to tackle him from all corners, using regional political bigwigs.
Miguna declines Raila offer

www.ntv.co.ke Maverick lawyer Miguna Miguna has sensationally turned down an offer to resume his duties as the Prime Minister's advisor on coalition affairs. Miguna says the terms offered in his reinstatement were not reflective of the agreement he had reached with the Prime Minister. The reinstatement terms would have forced him to sign a new contract and as Brenda Wanga reports, Miguna is not ready to report to anybody else other than the Prime Minister.

Raila Odinga's Backyard, Lang'ata Constituency

One of the reasons Raila Odinga might not be getting my one presidential vote come 2012...This is a middle class neighborhood in Lang'ata constituency specifically South C. My MP the PM is too busy trying to be president of Kenya to care about his backyard! I ask though, if you cannot take care of the 'small' details in your constituency, how the heck do you expect me to trust you to fix a broken nation like Kenya? We the residents are suffering respiratory diseases when it's dry and waterborne diseases when it rains, from one extreme to another not to mention the unbearable mosquitoes! NEMA is in the neighborhood, KEBS too but we want to see our MP doing something about this especially considering the Ministries of Roads, Local Government and Health Services are in his side of the coalition. Nairobi City Council is under ODM leadership...Uko wapi RAO??

New Anti-Raila Strategy

Politicians opposed to Prime Minister Raila Odinga are toying with two scenarios they believe will deny him victory - either by fielding a single presidential candidate in round one or by each party backing its own presidential candidate in that early round and later fronting for the most popular candidate to compete with the Premier in a run-off. Sources told Citizen TV that the advisers of the various anti-Raila camps have been burning the midnight oil to study the pros and cons of each option with most of them favouring a pre-election pact rather than gambling with a run-off. Alex Chamwada takes a look at the reasoning behind the two game plans.

Raila on PEV Responsibility

Prime Minister Raila Odinga has re-ignited debate on who actually bears overall responsibility over the 2007/08 post election violence. Odinga told the high court sitting in Nairobi today that he thought president Kibaki should take personal and political responsibility for the post poll skirmishes, and particularly the atrocities allegedly committed by state security apparatus in the wake of the chaos. But in a prompt response to Odinga's allegations, president Kibaki said he would not be drawn into blame games, since Kenyans by now knew how the violence erupted and how it ended. But, in a statement released by the prime minister's office moments ago, Odinga said his answers to questions posed in court were being taken out of context, adding that it was not his intention to assign blame for the post election violence, during his appearance as a witness in court this morning. Francis Gachuri reports.
