Issued in Canada November 1979 on A&M 483. From the LP "Rendezvous" on A&M SP 9037. CANO is an acronym for Cooperative des Artistes de Nouvel Ontario. The collective was formed in Sudbury in 1971 with some sixty musicians. A group of select players was put together as part of their project. In 1975, CANO signed with A&M Canada and began to release records in French. They earned critical praise, but did not sell well. In 1978, founding member Andre Paiement committed suicide. The remaining members carried on. In 1979, they decided to work in English. "Rendezvous" was made in nine days at Manta Sound, Toronto, with Jim Vallance producing and Haywood Parrott engineering. Group members were: Marcel Aymar (lead vocals, lead guitar), Rachel Paiement (lead vocals, guitar), David Burt (guitar), Michel Kendel (keyboards), Wasyl Kohut (acoustic and electric violin), John Doerr (bass), and Michel Dasti (drums). Guesting on this track was John Anthony Helliwell of Supertramp on saxophone. "Rebound" entered the RPM 100 on December 1, 1979 at #99, and that was it. The next week it was gone - although the record did receive airplay in many markets through December and into January of 1980. There is some extremely sophisticated musicianship going on here. Make no mistake, this is not your average pop group - these folks were very, very talented and accomplished composers and musicians. My own DVD rip. A young Kevin Garnett made his acting debut by playing Wilt Chamberlain in this 1996 HBO movie, "Rebound: The Legend of Earl The Goat Manigault" -- which is a dramatization of the life of streetball legend Earl Manigault. It's a good movie, so make sure y'all check it out if you haven't seen it. The movie was directed by Eriq La Salle and starred Don Cheadle as Earl Manigault. It was filmed in Harlem and Toronto. KG's role as Wilt The Stilt was small -- his scenes are essentially all in this sequence -- but did include a couple of lines. He got to have some fun with the part and talk trash a bit after setting a hard pick: "Welcome to the big league, schoolboy" -- which was met by Cheadle's shot rejecting "Welcome to Harlem, motherfucker.") Notice that KG's would-be future Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Joe Smith played Connie Hawkins. Joe Smith and Kevin Garnett were selected in the same 1995 NBA Draft -- Smith at #1 by Golden State, Garnett at #5 by Minnesota.
