As he celebrated in Victory Lane, teammate Kyle Busch was shut out of the Chase for the championship. It was a compelling night of Saturday night racing at Richmond International Raceway, where 11 drivers vied for the final eight available spots in NASCAR's title-deciding Chase. On the bubble was Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth, who started the race in the 12th and final qualifying spot, with hard-charging Brian Vickers and Busch, owner of four wins this season, right on his bumper. Kenseth struggled from the drop of the green flag and quickly fell out of contention. But Busch and Vickers swapped the final spot multiple times over the 400 laps, setting up a final 14-lap sprint to the finish. Busch used a flawless final pit stop to beat Vickers off of pit road, but he restarted the race sixth and could only gain one spot on the track. He finished fifth. My set from Red Bull Thr33style New Orleans (Spring 2011) that featured DJ Kemistry, DJ Jive, Bombshell Boogie, Beverly Skillz, Tony Skratchere, DJ Chicken and DJ Spin, hosted by Mannie Fresh and judged by DJ Craze, Wild Wayne, Raj Smoove, Brice Nice and M-Squared. Red Bull Thre3Style is a DJ contest that promises to be a night of dance-floor mayhem. The participants have to play a selection of at least three genres or styles of music in 15 minutes. It doesn't matter what genres of music are chosen so long as the DJ can make them work together. The participating DJs are judged on their track-selection, technical skills, creativity and most importantly their ability to bring the house down. It doesn't matter if they know all the DJing tricks and techniques in the book, if they can't get the feet on the dancefloor and hands in the air, they don't stand a chance of winning a Red Bull Thre3Style contest. All participants are judged by a panel of professional party starting DJs with much experience in the industry. Rain was forecast for the weekend but Practice day was all sun and shine as we flew up above the track thanks to Garden City Helicopters, capturing some stunning video of the cars attacking the infield reverse section at Taupo Raceway. Favored by everyone in pitlane, the Reverse Track configuration produces some of the tightest and closest drifting in the country. This year it played host to Round 3 of the Cody's D1NZ Championship Series where Cole Armstrong in the V Energy R34 Skyline leads the title chase with Mad Mike Whiddett in the Redbull RX7 close behind - a battle of the energy drinks. Fresh with confidence after wining Round 2 at Pukekohe Raceway in November was Curt Whittaker in the 2JZ Powered All Black R34 Skyline, sitting 3rd in the points without any major backing Curt and the Whittaker Motorsport team where out to proove themselves again in the hopes of securing funding for next year. The All-Black Skyline is easily a fan favorite with the Australasian Drift Champ behind the wheel. The XC riders climb around a few of the major hotels, cut through forest single-track and then loop back into the town. The XC portion ends with a climb up rue des Remparts, the main artery of Tremblant village.
