Em plena contagem regressiva para o Natal, e em meio às imagens alegres de renas em sua festiva aparição anual, uma investigação da WSPA exibiu cenas registradas na Suécia e na Finlândia, cuja crueldade tanto contrasta com esse clima lúdico: o sofrimento imposto a inúmeros rebanhos de renas, enquanto estas são cercadas, transportadas e abatidas. Um vídeo que consta do relatório dos investigadores mostra a enorme angústia vivida pelas renas, durante cada etapa do processo de comercialização, em larga escala, de sua carne.
