"Help Me, Rhonda" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love for their American rock band The Beach Boys. The song is the first Beach Boys song (with the exception of their Christmas Album) to feature a lead vocal by Al Jardine. It was released in March 1965 on the album Today! as "Help Me, Ronda". By that time, it had already been re-recorded; this version was released as a single through Capitol Records in April 1965, re-titled with the more well-known "Rhonda" spelling.The single peaked at number one in the United States, their second US number one single after "I Get Around". The song is on most Beach Boys hits compilations; typically the single version is used.The original version was recorded over two dates at Western Recording Studios in Hollywood on January 8 and 19, 1965, with Chuck Britz as the engineer and production by Brian Wilson.The instrumental track has Carl Wilson, Bill Pitman, and Glen Campbell on guitar, Billy Strange on ukulele, Ray Pohlman on bass guitar, Leon Russell on piano, Hal Blaine on drums and timbales, Julius Wechter on claves, Billy Lee Riley on harmonica, Steve Douglas and Plas Johnson on tenor saxophone, and Jay Migliori on baritone saxophone. The group was initially composed of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Managed by the Wilsons' father Murry, The Beach Boys signed to Capitol Records in 1962. The band's early music gained popularity across the United States for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a Southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance. By the mid 1960s, Brian Wilson's growing creative ambition and songwriting ability would dominate the group's musical direction. The primarily Wilson-composed Pet Sounds album and "Good Vibrations" single (both released in 1966) featured a complex, intricate and multi-layered sound that was a far cry from the simple surf rock of The Beach Boys' early years. However, Wilson would soon lose control of the band due to mental-health and substance-abuse issues. Subsequently, although it released a number of popular albums (in various musical styles, with different line-ups) in ensuing years, the group never managed to reclaim its mid-'60s peak when The Beach Boys briefly challenged The Beatles both in terms of commercial and critical appeal. Filmed in Los Angeles CA in March of 1998, as part of a project to assist homeless people. Look in the background for pictures of Rhonda as a beautiful little girl; at 2:38 she is 11 years old, and at 2:55 she is 5. The connection is to her CD "Yesterday and Today", which features both this song and historical information about Rhonda. She was five at the time of her first recording session. The quality of this video is poor, but I am grateful to have it - grateful to whomever captured it from TV. The poor quality is mostly due to the fact that I started with the YouTube flash video, at 25fps and 1/2 VGA.

Help Me Rhonda alternate single version - The Beach Boys. Brian recognized that this song had greater potential after the first recording. He brought back more musicians and added the distinctive "wah-wah-wah" high harmony part. The resulting final mix was labeled "final mono master" on the tape box, but within a few days Brian changed his mind and returned the group to the studio, creating a different set of live overdubs for another try at a final mix which was preferred for the single. This can be found on the "Endless Harmony" CD.
