robinwright.org.es On December 14 2009, on Charlie Rose, actress Robin Wright broke down briefly when her host asked if she'd wanted to be "the best actress of her generation" — raising questions about what Hollywood expects of women. Rose tells Wright that "Jodie Foster once said [...] that if you'd wanted to, you could've been the best actress of your generation, suggesting that you didn't want to." Wright says "I never thought I was good," but later Private Lives of Pippa Lee director Rebecca Miller suggests that Wright has had "maybe not the most pragmatic career." And elsewhere Wright has mentioned passing on roles to spend more time with her kids. A recent Redbook interview quotes her as saying, "I turned down so many films because I wanted to be a mom thatthey stopped offering." But she also makes it clear that this was a choice, something she "wanted" more than being the best actress of her generation, whatever that means. When Redbook's Stacy Morrison tells her, "People might be tempted to say, 'You gave up your life so he could be Mr. Sean Penn,'" she responds, "He was already Mr. Sean Penn. " And she says, I really wanted to be a mom. I didn't want my kids to be raised by a nanny, which would have been the case if I were working two movies in a year, you know? And I would have been hospitalized with fatigue. So that's where the no-brainer came in. I did what I wanted to do: I raised my kids.

Ari Folman's The Congress is not the most predictable follow-up to Waltz With Bashir. "I do not want to be put in a cage," he told Screen, when asked why he had moved away from the Middle Eastern politics of Bashir. His new film is a loose adaptation of a novella by the Polish science fiction writer and author of Solaris, Stanislaw Lem. The Congress deals with the dematerialization of society and questions the ethics -- or absence of them -- in contemporary cinema. Eschewing any Avatar-style technology, Folman has intentionally used traditional 2D animation techniques to explore questions of identity, reality and representation in a 3D era. This project consists of two parts: a live-action feature lasting about 45 minutes, followed by an animation of about 50 minutes. There is no careful transition from one medium to the other, it is done in "one cut" Folman says, emphasizing that this sudden switch forces the viewer to compare the two aesthetics and think about how their differences inform the narrative. Rebecca Miller about the film: Its the mother and daughter and how the last generation of mother and daughter affects this generation of mother and daughter. Its about how we swing in roundabout and, you know, affect — the generations are talking to each other and affecting each other. Robin Wright: I think I finally just went get over being scared. Its so tired. Its really tired, being fearful and afraid of failing and, God, if I made that choice as this character in this take what if it looks bad? Just do it. Just fail, then, because there might be something on the other side of failure. So that, coupled with getting this role, you know what I mean? I just felt like there was the epiphany and it was a gift, that they coincided.
