A possible route to your roots, if any of your ancestors were born or lived in Cole Harbour, Halifax, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, Canada. The museum is operated by the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society which promotes protection of the area's natural and cultural heritage, including conservation of its salt marsh, wildlife and heritage landscapes. It maintains the Cole Harbour Meeting House on Long Hill, open on a limited basis in July & August. The museum is a former farm now surrounded by modern subdivisions. The remaining 2½ acres contain farm buildings, equipment and some livestock. The Giles House, approximately 200 years old, contains household artifacts. Gardens display old and new plant varieties. Farmers and market gardeners, the earlier residents of Cole Harbour used the nearby saltmarsh and sea and travelled to Halifax City Market to sell their produce. The Rose & Kettle Tea Room is open during museum hours.
