VarisNox plays as Ryze in one of our custom Tuesday YouTube night games. His build notes: Runes were AP Quints, MPen reds, Armor Yellows, Flat MR blues. Not optimal, but it's the page that fit Ryze best. I would probably have MoveSpeed quints and maybe manaregen yellows if I could pick and choose. Masteries were 9/0/21, which seems like the optimal way to go, since you really want that mana/level from the utility tree. The spellvamp/buff duration and cooldown reduction is pretty nice too. I screwed up a few times in the beginning. It ended up not mattering as much, but it definitely could've been more costly. While I didn't die, I definitely messed up a few ganks that should've been kills and could've farmed better in the early game. I also probably didn't use my skills in the best order for the most damage at times. All those things can easily be attributed to a lack of Ryze play on my part, but it's still things that bug me and will be immediately noticed by others, especially those that have played Ryze before. While I can generally play every champ competently without ever playing them previously, it's another thing entirely to be familiar with the match ups and the actual amount of damage you're capable of doing/taking. If the game had gone longer, I would've finished Rylai's, then WotA, then finally Archangel's. For each of those items, I wasn't concerned about the AP they could give me, but rather the utility, so the lifesteal and HP/Slow were why I was interested ...
