Classic Game Room - RETRON 3: SNES, NES and GENESIS Game Console Review Pt1

Part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room HD reviews the Hyperkin RETRON 3. Part 2 here www.youtube.com This is a video game console that plays Super Nintendo SNES, Nintendo 8-bit NES and 16-bit Sega Genesis video games. It even has S-Video (which works for Genesis and SNES) as well as standard composite video. The Retron3 comes with 2 wireless controllers which are acceptable for NES games but have poor Genesis button mapping. More importantly though, the Retron 3 allows you to play with your original controllers for Genesis, NES and SNES!! Now, that's a feature!! This CGR review of the Hyperkin Retron 3 shows gameplay from several video games including Gaiares on Genesis, Ultraman on SNES and Zanac on Nintendo Entertainment System NES. This video shows the s-video quality of the Hyperkin Retron3 compared to a modified Sega Genesis Model 1 and demonstrates the audio quality. Video quality is very impressive and audio is not bad, although it lacks some of the dynamics that the original Genesis produces. Overall performance was awesome and CGR thinks that this console should not be overlooked when shopping for replacement old school systems. Flexibility, quality and original controller compatibility make the Retron 3 a bombastic classic video game console.

Classic Game Room buys a SUPER NINTENDO SNES system

Classic Game Room HD buys a SUPER NINTENDO video game console! Can you believe it? A used SNES is now in the possession of the world's most powerful video game review show, CLASSIC SNES OWNING GAME ROOM! Now we can review all of the classics except with a "super" in front of them, like "SUPER Metroid" and "SUPER Star Wars". This console purchase was overshadowed by our recent adventure to buy a Sega Saturn, and we were excited to find a SNES at the same store for $40 with controller and power supply and wires etc... We turned it on, it works. Plays well except the game seems a bit wobbly in there. Classic Game Room reviews video games from years past and the future, although don't call us retro reviews, because we are permanently stuck in the '80s which isn't retro, it's now. We're now reviewers. We review games now. Not then, you just missed it. It's now. The SNES joins the Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis, Mega Drive MD , Sega CD, 32x, Playstation 1, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Entertainment System NES, N64 and Magnavox Odyssey 2 consoles for the awesome CGRHD show!

SNES Starfox 2

The Holy Grail of unreleased SNES prototypes. It was truly a shame this game was not released, it shows just how much diference the SFX-2 chip was in relation to the original SFX chip. It was much later that the knowledge of this near Gold cart was confirmed, being dumped and analyzwed by the ZSNES team, until it was eventualy made playable. Soon after, AGTP released a english patch to the game, that also removed the debug features (such has the onscreen FPS counter). Most of the ideas of this game were then moved to Starfox 64 / Lylat Wars and even today, as I received my Starfox Command for DS, I recognized the real time strategic map screen. I wish they would implement the transforming AR-Wings into mech thingy in future releases. Ill just have to patiently wait for the Wii version of Fox & crew next adventure. Video made it to GoNintendo: gonintendo.com Big "Heya!" to RMC from me.

SNES Donkey Kong Country - Jungle Hijinks

When Rare announced at the end of E3 1994 that Donkey Kong Country was in fact for the SNES and not for the Ultra 64, jaws dropped. Using a tecnhique called ACM (Advanced Computer Modelling, rendering models and animating them in high end CGI machines, then turning them into 2D sprites...smart!), DKC was a mark not only in SNES history, but videogame alltogether. We were being delivered in 1994 on a 16 bit system a game that not only looked next gen, it looked like a tecnhological miracle. It not only had amazing graphics, the soundtrack by Robin Beanland, Eveline Fischer, and Dave Wise was one of the most memorable ones on the system. If youre a fan, make sure to get the OPverclocked Remix project, Kong in Concert: dkcproject.ocremix.org This was with F-Zero one of the starting SNES lineup titles for the European Wii VC. This game also debuted the Donkey Kong model as you know it now, and has since become my favorite Nintendo character. Not much else to say, really. If you missed the game at the time, make sure you do grab it now on the Wii VC, tis were truly amazing days for a video game passionate like me.

Midways classic arcade NBA franchise! When this game was converterd to the Megadrive and SNES, I just had to have it. Really addictive, fast paced gameplay (like most of Midways sports series, I love them all) and tons of fun with 2 or more players. Boomshakalaka indeed! Video hit from GoNintendo: gonintendo.com

My first SNES game. It came with the machine, thankfully. I still remember the first time I saw that Nintendo logo came up, followed by the intro of the game. I've made this video to celebrate its re-re-released (2nd time was on GBA) On the Wii Virtual Console in the USA (Monday Feburary 5th 2007) and hope it gets released over here in Europe soon. It has been available to Japan Wii VC from lunch day!). Nothing really much to say, simply the best 2D platform game ever made, introducing Yoshi!

SNES PC Build Project - Part 1

One year after completing the NES PC Build (shown here: www.youtube.com I take on the challenge of making the SNES PC. Part 1 discusses some of the issues encountered and the beginning steps of the build. The voice acting didn't come out quite right on this one. I was trying to be less monotone, but it didn't work like I had intended and sounds a bit strained towards the end. I go back to my normal voice in the Part 2 video. Just FYI.

SNES Sim City

The classic Sim City gets the Nintendo treatment! I love this game, and this SNES versions just gave us soo much extra stuff, it is up to this day my favorite version of the original Sim City. It is, however, really hard to put in a video why this game is soo brilliant, so I hope you enjoy the first 10 minutes of a practice city, with all the nice help from Dr Wright. There is a new version of the game comming to the DS soon, but if you have a Wii, this has been on Wii VC for quite a bit now, and its well worth those 800 Wii points.

SNES Spawn

I LOVE this game! Fist of all because it is made from the team that gave us Hook and Skyblazer (Sony Imagesoft). Then the game itself has lovely graphics, beautiful animation and really great music (again, trademark by this developer team). Spawn himself was an amazingly fun character to play with, because he had tons of special moves, all done by Street Fighter like inputs. This was never released in my country, tough, so I was only able to play it much later. At the time, there wasnt even a FAQ for it at GameFaqs, so I decided to make my own. Its still there after all these years. I went there and read what I wrote so I could show off as many of the special moves as I could on this vid. Brilliant, yet sadly forgotten game. I believe Capcom holds the current rights to spawn now, but since its from Sony, guess we will (sadly) never see Hook/Skyblazer/Spawn on the Wii VC.

My 250th vid! Recently confirmed for the Wii Virtual Console, this SNES (also Megadrive) top down single or two player shooter proved to be quite fun and was given good reviews. One of Lucasarts games for the system, it is filled with references to cult classic movies, from zombies to aliens, there's a bit for everyone on this game. Who can forget the Giant Baby boss? SNES Super Metroid Introduction

Simply put, one of the best videogames ever made. How nostalgic I get when I hear those first few lines of speech... I bought this game the day it came out in Portugal, and I was simply hooked. If there ever was a prize for "Perfect Videogame", Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo would be in the top 10 of such list. Enjoy the intro...

SNES Chrono Trigger - Intro

My 400th video! So, what happens when your cross the greatest 16 bit machine ever created (the Super Nintendo) with the excessive talent of Squaresoft's "Dream Team" (Final Fantasy's Hironobu Sakaguchi, Kazuhiko Aoki, musical composer legends Nobuo Uematsu & Yasunori Mitsuda and legendary character designer Akira "Dragonball" Toriyama)? Simple. One of the greatest games ever made, on any format, on any hardware generation. As many others, It was not released in Europe (to my great sadness) so it was many years later that I was able to enjoy it. A Wii Virtual Console port is the number 1 request from everyone all around the globe, but this will be tricky, too many people (none of them are at Square-Enix at all) to get the permission to do so... but this has to happen, it just does!* Hope the intro brings back to you as many fond good memories not only of this game, but of indeed, the golden age of video gaming. *And it finally did. Download the game on the Wii Virtual console right now! =)

SNES ActRaiser - Fillmore

My Xmas vid! Why not celebrate the birth of GOD's child then to play as GOD himself! That's right, altough heavy retranslated and toned down, there are still too many hints on this unique (and personal favorite) Super Nintendo game to fool anyone. Enix gave the SNES the definitive GOD vs THE DEVIL game, that brings so many fond memories to anyone who was fortunate to play it back in 1990 (Let hope Nintendo and Square-Enix put this quickly on Wii VC, eh?). This small vid demonstrates the distinct 2 types of gameplay on Actraiser, both to the music of Yuzo Koshiro (of Streets of Rage fame). Ill be rediscovering this gem well into Christmas day, so to all, Merry Christmas from Shiryu! v ^_^ PS: If you're a true ActRaiser fan, make sure you get the AGTP (Aeon Genesis Translation Proclamation) translations patch for the original Japanese version of the game. It's simply perfect, with no name changing ("Lord" is "God", "Tanzra" is "Satan", etc...) and much harder then the original US/Euro release. Update: Confirmed on the Wii Virtual Console, the first ever Enix title on the system! Update: The wait is over, now available on Wii VC PAL on this day, April 13th 2007. Update: Finnally across the Atlantic, out now on American Wii VC on this day, May 28th 2007.

Super Mario Kart (SNES) Gameplay

UPDATE, 11/19/2011: Over half a million views. What else can I say? Wait, I got an embed from Time Magazine? HLOY SIHT Wait, they linked to this on the Top Gear website? WHOA Gameplay from the Super NES game Super Mario Kart, emulated in ZSNES. The start of a legend of gaming. The original SMK was unbalanced, brutal, and unrefined. It was also pretty much unlike anything we'd ever seen before. It was a racing game, something we'd seen before, but with Mario characters and items. It let us not only race the game, or our best times, or each other, but it also let us turn our aggression, built over the course of CPU-administered beatings, onto each other in direct battle. No wonder it spawned imitators. No wonder it's a fixture on Nintendo systems. No wonder it's a favorite. UPDATE, 6/7/2008: Geez, nearly 1500 views in a month. Most of my videos don't get that in three or four months. Some don't even get it in six. Thanks. UPDATE, 7/22/2008: Less than three months and this video has over 4000 views. Jeez, do you people like this thing or WHAT? UPDATE, 11/5/2008: 15000 VIEWS IN SIX MONTHS HOLY SHIT WHAT MAKES THIS VIDEO SO DAMN POPULAR? UPDATE, 12/14/2008: 20000 VIEWS GOOD GOD WHY UPDATE, 4/1/2009: Over 40000 views. Sweet holy screaming crap. This is, by far, the most popular video I've put up. Am I bringing in people or something? When the SNES came out, one of the launch titles that immediately got my attention was R-Type. But not just R-Type, it was a Super R-Type! Sunset Riders: SNES (Hard) - Stages 1 and 2

Yes... we are doing this one more time! This time around I am going to be putting a lot more emphasis on pointing out the differences between the Arcade game and the SNES port. One of the biggest differences is the difficulty settings... and what a difference they make! You saw what the game is like on Easy... now witness Hard mode! Hard is brutal in all possible ways... Bullets move faster, bosses fire more bullets, bosses take longer to kill, and bosses have more minions... a LOT more minions! ...This is gonna be tough... Much to be expected, I made sure to get plenty of practice in before trying this run. Now about the first stage... Female enemy types were removed ("Violence Against Women" censorship), the women that are seen with the player characters when leaving doors were made to look more normal and less like hookers (this pleases me), the player characters no longer come out the door drinking anything (removal of alcohol from the game)... I am only scratching the surface here. More changes on the actual stage itself... the pitch-forks were removed (Whyyyyy?! =TT= ), a few enemies were removed, the bulls are all the same colour, and, of course, the flashing on-screen notifications were removed. All in all... stage 1 is pretty similar between the two versions, and the boss is more or less exactly the same. Stage 2, on the other hand, is VERY different. Horse-back riding stages in the SNES port are a lot less exciting... There are a ton less enemies, you now have ...

So how do you make a good game from a movie with no guns? As Probe showed, you get all toys from the previous movie and off you go, baldy Ripley goes Rambo. But there was only one Alien on the movie! Again, Probe saves the day, for in the game, there are hundreads! Good thing we got tons of ammo as well. This was a really great game back when it came out, it had varied missions, loads of places to go and I was just sad it did not have a final Ripley vs Queen showdown... no cart space or no dev time, I guess, since the Queen does appear in the game ending. Also, why not take one of the most famous voice samples in sampling history from the previous movie? "Gameover, man, Gameover!"
