Stirling (Gaelic: Sruighlea, Scots: Stirlin) is a city and former ancient burgh in Scotland, and is at the heart of the wider Stirling council area. The city is clustered around a large fortress and mediæval old-town beside the River Forth. www.greenpowerscience.com This is a larger Stirling engine that has a 12v DC Permanent Magnet motor operating fixed as the flywheel bearing. It produces 15 Volt max with NO LOAD. This setup as is produces about 15 watts. The heat sink is a water cooled tank that is a bit short for the displacement piston but does work. I will be adding some heat sinks soon and testing it with the 56 inch dish and a Fresnel Lens. The motor/generator has an additional pulley that the other engine I have may be tied to. The water can be fed continuously or as a tank.

Also a Dual Rotor Axial Flux Generator. Most people try a plastic reflector from the back, this is a poor option. Also if you use a standard "Dynamo" for power, you will be lucky to get 3-10 watts. Stirling engines are hindered by "COGGING" Axial Flux limits cogging. Still the overall cost and time to get a max of 40 watts. Solar Panels are by far the best option. But these are fun for sure. We have been trying different videos and had a run of experiments not going right. Also Florida is very cloudy from June - July, this video took 4 hours to shoot waiting for the clouds.

The piston rings were removed as the machining of the pistons was very good. There is still good compression. The ring removal decreases friction dramatically and will allow for a good cycle. The Displacer is a Bikini Spray can that I got to fit perfectly. At the end is the ghost of Robert Stirling. Just kidding, think I have been working too hard.

Stirling Engine Demonstration Model. It is a do-it-yourself construction out of simple materials like test tubes, Lego pneumatic cylinders and marbles. The starting position of the engine is tipped to the left. The alcohol burner heats the air in the right area of the test tube; the air expands and pushes the pneumatic cylinder and thus the test tube upwards. The marbles roll to the right. The hot air is then forced to the left, where it gets cooled. The cool air shrinks, the pneumatic cylinder moves downwards and the test tube tips counter clockwise. The marbles roll left and the air is pushed right, to the hot side. The air expands and moves the piston again. And so on and so forth. There's a piece of steel wool in the bottom of the test tube (hot side). It's both, heat exchanger and cushion (to avoid the test tube to break). In the test tube are placed five marbles that act as displacer piston as they move the air from the hot side to the cold side and backwards. As friction is a common problem in building Stirling engines, I decided to use a low-friction "LEGO" pneumatic cylinder as working piston. Furthermore the whole system has to be 100 % leak-proof; I used an original Edradour Scotch Whisky cork to close the test tube and finally silicon to seal all crucial parts. To make the engine finally run some fine tuning in terms of balancing the test tube and positioning the pneumatic cylinder and the heat source is necessary.

This is the same engine with a strong Fresnel Lens. The steel wool adds power to the displacer piston as the light has a good focal target INSIDE the glass chamber Dramatically increasing efficiency. This is very important as most Stirling Engine lose 50% of their heat into the surrounding air. A vacuum would be even better. Also, because the glass chamber easily removes with a rubber O ring fitting, air can be replaces with a custom heat exchange gas.

The Stirling was the first four-engined British heavy bomber of the Second World War. Built by Short Brothers, it was to have a relatively short operational career. Throughout the 1930s, the Royal Air Force was interested primarily in twin-engine bombers and invested heavily in development of huge engines in the 2000 horsepower (1500 kW) class in order to improve performance.
