Steve Vai Interviewed by Justin Sandercoe (MA-005)

I met up with Steve at Guitar Nation 2010 and did this interview. He mostly talks about practice and how he approaches it. After this I interviewed him live in from of an Audience for 90 minutes - it was really cool to meet one of my childhood guitar hero's and ask him all the things I've been wondering for the last 20 years! He was a real nice guy, down to earth and fun. He's got a cool web site with guitar advice and lesson kinda stuff too: www.vai.com Thanks to the Jedi for coming in and filming Cheers cobba!Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! RO-004 • Mini Sweep Picking Arpeggios (Guitar Lesson)

In this guitar lesson we check out some mini sweep picking arpeggio patterns. I take you through a basic string pattern and explain the technique and show you a few variations and licks but you should go explore this concept yourself too. Few extra tips, TAB and soem other hints I forgot to mention on the web site too. Hope you dig. BTW - yes I know I said variations kinda strange, it was some kind of stutter thing, but I couldn't be arsed re-filming. And I do know that I'm not great at this stuff, before you shred heads have a go about the fact that my sweeping is a bit sloppy. But i's heavily requested and I can teach it ok I think. I'm not a technical kinda guy, and not that keen on become one!Taught by Justin Sandercoe. Bowling for Sandercoe

WINNER!! of Justin Sandercoe's "most innovative use of a guitar" competition. :) To answer some of the more commonly asked questions: The music was written specially for the film by Loic Desjardins. It doesn't have a name that I know of and it's not available anywhere besides this film at the moment. I used a Panasonic NV-GS280 camcorder, Stop Motion Pro, Photoshop and Sony Vegas to make the film. And some Lego. My other Lego films were shot with a Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 webcam - a pretty cheap alternative. It's all stop motion - 15 frames per second, so around 1800 frames altogether. I filmed it over about three days, then spent about a day fiddling about editing and masking and stuff. The bouncing ball effect is explained here: www.youtube.com Don't forget you can catch Justin's guitar lessons at www.justinguitar.com - it's all free and there's plenty of videos starting right from the basics. I think that's about it. Thanks for all the comments so far. Keep them coming

Jim Campilongo Interviewed by Justin Sandercoe (MA-007)

Jim Campilongo is one of the finest guitar players around. I only discovered him in early 2010 when he released his album Orange which a lot of friends were raving about. It's a really awesome guitar album and so when I was in New York in November 2010 I hooked with Jim for an interview for you guys. Once we got chatting it just kept going and ended up being nearly 50 minutes, but it was all too cool to cut. He knows a lot of great stuff and there is a lot to learn in this... So go check out his album Orange, and he also does some very cool lessons by mail and download from his web site: www.jimcampilongo.com He's also playing every Monday night at The Living Room (Ludlow St, Lower East Side) with his trio which is real awesome too. I know the quaility is not so hot, I didn't have my usual camera with me (too big) so it was the first time using my JVC HM1, which did a great job considering we didn't have any lighting and it was getting dark.Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! About the video Video was shoot on a Panasonic DMC-FS4 "Lumix" camera, Audio was recorded, while recording the video, with Guitar Rig 4, now I want to thank SoloDallas for helping me to get the right sound! The Guitar is a Tenson "SG" (I suppose, never knew the right name) which is a german guitar, don't know how the heck it came to Argentina. I want to apologise because of the quality of the video, it is too dark, and I've been 2 hours looking for some software to fix it but got nothing. Maybe if you put the video on fullscreen and put the screen at 100% you will watch it better! That's all, hope you like it!!

My wonderful wife bought me Justin Sandercoe's DVD box set Solo Blues Guitar Volumes 1-3 for my birthday. I eagerly learned this first song and then rushed to record it. Angus Young - AC/DC - Style Licks (Guitar Lesson RO-101)

In this video I take you through 6 awesome Angus Young AC/DC style licks, close up and slow for you to check out. There is a pdf tab on the web site page which will probably make things easier. Everybody's asking about the sound. I have a 1973 Marshall JMP50 head into a vintage late 60's 4x12 speaker box (for the really anal, the speakers are greenbacks, two original and two re-issues). Settings: Presence 2, Bass 4, Middle 6, Treble 4, Volume I 5, Volume II 0. It's bloody loud, even but I have it in the live room, connected by a door. No special mic though, it's just getting picked up by a Neumann 184 I have fitted to the camera and the Lapel Mic. The guitar is a regular modern SG Standard, the trick to get a good Angus tone is to turn the volume down to about 7 or 8 - on full it's too distorted imho.Taught by Justin Sandercoe. I made this while I was waiting for Loic to finish up the music for BfS. It's deliberately misleading in that it gives the impression that something actually happens in the film. The music in this one is something else that Loic did for me a couple of years ago. Multi-talented, that man.

Justin Sandercoe - Shoot To Thrill (not AC/DC) ... an imperfect take!

I used the Justin Sandercoe backing track and lesson for this great AC/DC song (see here www.youtube.com . I went digging around in my video vaults, and there in a dusty corner found this forgotten and neglected recording. I was too late learning this to enter the competition that Justin ran in conjunction with ACDC and the Iron Man folk to win a guitar or some other goodies - it's just aswell as I don't really think I would have been a contender :-) I can't believe how off the beat I am after just one burst of the initial riff. I seem to recall that I had turned my amp up really loud and couldn't hear the backing too well. At least that will do as an excuse for now maybe... lol. I got back on the beat and in the froove after a short time ... until the very last chord! Hit it a fraction too soon. D'oh! Oh, and I really fumbled on the solo ... a straight 4/4 rock solo is so difficult for me ... I'm still trying to get to grips with a slow blues solo never mind a thumping hard and fast rock solo. Ah well, parts of it were (just about) passable. Anyway, I had a real blast playing it ... and as I haven't (yet) gone back to relearn and improve it I thought I would post this video anyway. Anyway, I had a real blast playing it ... and as I haven't (yet) gone back to relearn and improve it I thought I would post this video anyway. Albert King Style Blues Solo - Justin Sandercoe - Really Useful Blues Solos 1

** Spoiler alert ! ** ** This is a study piece by Justin Sandercoe to help with transcribing. Don't look too carefully if you have not transcribed this yet. ** This is the first of five solos in the Really Useful Blues Solos learning pack from Justin Sandercoe - written in the style of Albert King. I followed Justin's advice and transcribed it the 'old-fashioned way' ... by listening and figuring it out ... then transcribing my own tabs. Please do not ask for the tabs. I highly recommend this pack - it is available from justinguitar.com : "This Book and CD set contains 5 Blues Guitar solos, and complete transcriptions of both the rhythm and lead parts. Each one is in the style of a specific artist: Albert King, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. Any guitarist who wants to play the blues has to know the common licks (words) that are in the style (language). I have transcribed many solos by each of the artists listed, worked out their 'pet' licks and then combined them into one solo for you to learn." This was recorded 16 January 2009 about 1 year after starting to learn to play lead electric guitar (after years of just chords 'n' stuff) using the lessons from Justin Sandercoe (thanks!) on his amazing website justinguitar.com - www.justinguitar.com Equipment: Yamaha SG400, Peavey Vypyr 30, Peavey Sanpera II

AC/DC Shoot To Thrill Justin Sandercoe Competition

Hey everyone, my name is Justin Chamberlain, and I am from Maine, in the United States. The video above is one of my own creation. I wrote, directed, storyboarded, and edited all the footage, and recorded the guitar parts myself. My friend helped me shoot it, since I was on camera, but I set the shots up myself as well. Parts of the video are a "music video" of sorts, the other parts are actual footage of me recording the song in my room, beneath my shrine to AC/DC. Again, I want to stress that all parts of this video are my own doing. I want to personally thank Justin Sandercoe, and everyone else involved with putting on this competition. I had a lot of laughs making the video, and I hope you have just as many watching it. Thanks, and good luck to all other contestants. AC/DC and IRON MAN RULE!!!
