Bunyodkor took the lead after 27 minutes through Shavkat Salomov before Seyed Hadi Aghily levelled the scores in the third minute of first-half stoppage time. The Iranians then took the lead after 61 minutes through Iraqi striker Emad Mohammed but Bunyodkor secured a share of the spoils thanks to a 75th minute strike from Ashurmatov. The hosts controlled the game from the start and had their first chance after only six minutes when AFC Player of the Year Server Djeparov fired an effort from the edge of the area Sepahan goalkeeper Rahman Ahmadi had covered. Sepahan produced their best chance in the early stages when Seyed Hadi Aghily headed a corner into the path of Hamid Azizzadeh, who struck a powerful volley from inside the area that was saved off the goal line by Shavkat Salomov.
