Programmer: William Mataga [Synapse Software], 1982 via Wikipedia: Shamus is a computer game written by William Mataga and published by Synapse Software. Originally developed for the Atari 8-bit computer system in 1982, it was later ported to a number of platforms including the VIC-20, Commodore 64, TRS-80 Color Computer, TI-99/4A, IBM PC and Nintendo Game Boy Color; several of these ports were made by Atarisoft. It was followed by a sequel Shamus: Case II, available on the Atari and C64. GAMEPLAY: Inspired by the arcade game Berzerk, the objective of the game is to navigate the eponymous robotic detective through a 4-skill level, 128-room maze of electrified walls. The ultimate goal at the end of this journey is "The Shadow's Lair". Opposing the player are a number of robotic adversaries, including spiral drones, robo droids and snap jumpers. Shamus is armed with 'Ion SHIVs'...SHIV being an acronym for Short High Intensity Vaporizer...and is able to hurl up to two at a time at his enemies. Like many other games in this genre, touching an electrified wall results in instantaneous death. Shamus Case II (c64) longplay 1/2
I think this is one of the best old wave games on c64, but not among the most famous. I see this game as a hybrid between Pitfall, Space Invaders and Arkanoid / Breakout type of games. I first uploaded a video from this game in March 02, 2009, but I only barely reached floor 30 without saves. This time I completed the game with saves and in better quality compared to the previous video which I removed. This game is hard enough on novice difficulty. Everything gets even faster on harder difficulty levels. The movement of snakes is unpredictable and timing of jumps cannot be based on previous experience. Sometimes an unavoidable snake appears underneath just when landing. There's a specific key for each door, but all keys and doors look alike. Trains for a Cause - Shaymus
In January 31st I contacted 147 people to build one of the largest most creative trains ever made with the intention of making the birthday of an 11 year old boy, named Shaymus, one of the happiest birthdays and moments of his life as he currently battles cancer. 147 people got to be 2700 people within a couple of weeks. The network of people that I met throughout this journey has started a new campaign to fight against cancer. Hope you guys enjoy this video, as much as I enjoyed riding this first train made for one of the strongest kids I know. Shaymus Guinn!

Many years ago I worked as a psychiatric technician for a childrens' unit of a hospital back in Nebraska. I remember this one kid very well. His name was Shamus. He was labeled a rebellious out of control teenager with mutliple social/psychological disorders. But I knew after dealing with him for only a few short days there was NOTHING wrong with him. He was misunderstood by his parents, by his school, and by the doctors at the hospital. I remember I tried to show him that there were adults out there that understood him and cared about what he was feeling and what he was having trouble expressing. I think at one point I was able to reach him and relay that sentiment. But I guess I'll never really know. I thought about him a lot today and it got me in the mood to write this song. I named it after him ofcourse, he was my inspiration. I hope you all like it. And remember, not all "bad" kids are truly bad, merely misunderstood. It's a hard world out there for kids, you gotta keep that in mind! My wife selected the pics for the video, so those represents what the song meant to her. Enjoy!
