
These guys are so far off base historically, they should be fined by the FCC! O'Reilly and Shenkman denigrate former President Carter as an inept, waffling, indecisive leader with respect to the Iran Hostage Crisis. But ...those two 'armchair generals/chickenhawks' forget the incredibly bold decision by Carter to approve the Iranian-held American hostages, the ill-fated 'Operation Eagle Claw'. Not only did Carter have the guts to approve such a daring rescue mission, but within two weeks he ordered the US military to begin planning an even more daring rescue mission (Project Honey Badge - don't ask me where the military gets these names...), with improved air support developed under 'Operation Credible Sport'. See these videos for details on the MC-130 aircraft - www.youtube.com www.youtube.com As for O'Reilly the pompous 'chicken-hawk' criticizing Carter, one first should note where Carter was in his early 20s (serving on submarines for 6 years from '47 to '53, which saw the start of the Cold War and also the Korean War), AND THEN note where O'Reilly was in his early 20s (playing football and baseball at Marist College from 1967 to 1971 - the height of the Viet Nam War.) After that he went back to college for his Masters, so it appears that O'Reilly - like Dick Cheney - had 'other priorities during his privileged youth, while less fortunate Americans were dying on Southeast Asian battlefields.
