Wounded Heart: Pine Ridge & The Sioux

This is a truly memorable and moving documentary on the social and political problems of Lakota life on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservervation in South Dakota. So many people do not know or understand their way of life. Director Oliver Tuthill shows an un-yielding glance into the Lakota's everyday problems and perseverance in order to survive. He shows the issues factually (such as the mold overtaking their homes, the poverty, and abuse)and lets the viewer see the horrors for themselves. The film is highlighted by insightful interviews by the Lakotas and government officials. After seeing this documentary, one wants to be an activist and try to help make a difference in the hard lives of these remarkable people. This film not only shows the grittiness of their life, but the contrasting richness of their culture, customs, and their will to survive. I would recommend this documentary to anyone who wants to know more about the Lakota way of life as well as be inspired. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota Air Show Video. *Special Presentation!

Having watched many Air shows in Southern California over the years, I was excited to hear an Air show was coming to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. My friends at the Marine Recruiting office gave us VIP passes and we were lucky to get front row seats at show center. The show had many planes, demonstrations, and things for the kids to do too. There was a rare appearance of the F-22 Raptor, plus P-51, P-38, Pitts, etc, and of course the Blue Angels flights. I used a new Aiptek Action HD GVS 1080P camera for the first time to make this video. It has focus lock, and when I remembered to turn it on (LOL) it worked great. The compressed video here no way produces a video as clear as my original video but the camera is really neat, with gyro stabilization and focus lock. www.aiptek.com The show was wonderful and I salute all the military and civilian folks who keep our country free and still can organize an Air show as nice as this was. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Semper Fi, Dave Herbert USMC Ret. MSgt. NightFlyyer http

Winter camping in my miniature Sioux tipi

This is a short video showcasing my mini Sioux Tipi. It's an exact replica of a full size tipi with fully functional smoke flaps and 20 oz fire retardant duck canvas. You can check it out at www.tipi.com While I really like the tipi, I'll probably sell this one and buy something larger. UPDATE: Well, I ended up sleeping in the tipi that night. What a comedy it was. The temperature dropped to -15 C and to keep warm I was feeding wood into that little stove. Since I didn't use a draft tube, which I learned about later, the smoke became unbearable. The hole in the top allowed cold air and snow to blow in, and by 2:30 in the morning I stumbled into my house. I'll have to do some research before I try that again. LATEST UPDATE: I've sold this tipi to someone who plans to live in it for a year. I'm excited to hear how she does. Perhaps she'll make some videos.

Tour of Sioux City to Omaha as they prepare for the Epic Missouri River Flood 2011

With the release of over 100000 CFS of water from Gavins Point Dam (and higher rates to follow), Sioux City and points south are preparing for a record level of flooding. With cameras in hand, we traveled North to Sioux City to see first hand the amount of flooding already taking place. Sioux City, Iowa & Dakota Dunes, South Dakota are the first in the path to see the effects of Gavins Point release... with many residents from the Dakota Dunes region & South Sioux, NE taking the brunt of the flooding. Many local volunteers along with the National Guards are working around the clock trying to build up the levee system... Farther south in Decatur, NE levels are expected to reach record highs by mid June with most of the low lying areas flooded on both the Nebraska and Iowa sides of the river. While we were there, the river was still in its banks but with the predicted levels, the city park and marina will be 10ft under water within a week. Stopping in Blair, NE... most roads leading to the river were already closed due to minor flooding and the trailer park on the south side of Hwy-30 was inches away from flooding... City water and sewer were also threatened by the impending water. Ft Calhoun, NE... As we made our way to the Southeast part of town we encountered a roadblock patrolled by the local sheriff. Talking with them, the lower basin was already experiencing minor flooding with Boyer Chute & CR-34 already under water. A low level warning was issued for the Ft Calhoun ...

Wounded Knee Massacre (Wild West Tech excerpt) Great Sioux Nation Native Americans

yearslaterwewouldremember.com- On Dec. 29, 1890, 365 members of the US Army engaged in a final confrontation with what remained of the Great Sioux Nation. While the soldiers were trying to disarm the Native Americans, who had only a few remaining weapons, a gun accidentally went off, sparking a one-sided battle. In a matter of minutes, the US Army, armed with four deadly Hotchkiss cannons, killed 300 men, women and children. (Airing on the History Channel.)

Native American:Sioux Chief's Honoring Song

Sioux (pronounced SUE) are a Native American and First Nations people. The term can refer to any ethnic group within the Great Sioux Nation or any of the nation's many dialects. The Sioux comprise three major divisions based on dialect and subculture: Isanti ("Knife," originating from the name of a lake in present-day Minnesota): residing in the extreme east of the Dakotas, Minnesota, and northern Iowa, and are often referred to as the Santee or Eastern Dakota. Ihanktowan-Ihanktowana ("Village-at-the-end" and "little village-at-the-end"): residing in the Minnesota River area, they are considered to be the middle Sioux, and are often referred to as the Yankton or Western Dakota. Teton or Tetonwan (uncertain, perhaps "Dwellers on the Prairie"): the westernmost Sioux, known for their hunting and warrior culture, and are often referred to as the Lakota. Today, the Sioux maintain many separate tribal governments scattered across several reservations, communities, and reserves in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Nebraska, and also in Manitoba and southern Saskatchewan in Canada. The name "Sioux" is an abbreviated form of Nadouessioux borrowed into French Canadian from Nadoüessioüak from the early Odawa exonym: naadowesiwag "Sioux". It was first used by Jean Nicolet in 1640. The Proto-Algonquian form *na·towe·wa, meaning "Northern Iroquoian", has reflexes in several daughter languages that refer to a small rattlesnake (massasauga, Sistrurus). This information was interpreted by some that ...

Sitting Bull - Biography - Sioux Indians. 1/3

Sitting Bull Biography, 5 May 1877 - Nearly a year after he won the Battle of the Little Big Horn, Sitting Bull led his people into The Grandmother's Country (Canada, so-named out of respect for Queen Victoria - Grandmothers were much-revered) to try to find some relief from the US Army. Here he and his people lived in peace for four years. His younger warriors started making trouble with the neighboring tribes, however, and the Canadian government asked Sitting Bull to return to the US Sitting Bull engineered the victory at 'Custer's Last Stand'. Sitting Bull was a brilliant tactician, a Lakota Visionary, able to spur his warriors to victory even after defeat. It was for this talent that the US Army feared him most. He saw the victory at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, so his warriors knew they were going to be victorious. Unfortunately they did not heed the second part of his prophecy, to not take any of the white mans property as spoils of war. Sitting Bull never signed a "peace treaty." A meadowlark told him of his death by Lakota People. This is a comprehensive look at the life of the Great Lakotoa Chief, one of the last Great Leaders of the Indian Resistance Movement - a look at the life of a great man who still inspires the People today.

Sioux Indian Traditional Song - AIM

On September 13, 2007 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the "Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples." There were 144 states or countries that voted in fair. Four voted against it while 11 countries/states abstained. Those four that voted against it were the UNITED STATES, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Their main reason for voting against it was because they felt as if it "goes too far." The importance of this Declaration is that the Indigenous Peoples have the chance to have their rights recognized. Some of their rights include rights to self-determination, traditional lands and territories, traditional languages and customs, natural resources and sacred sites
