SKYLAB HITS WESTERN AUSTRALIA 1979

Ground controllers adjusted Skylab's orientation for ideal re-entry dynamics in the hours before reentry[14] at approximately 16:37 UTC 11 July 1979. They aimed the station at a spot 810 miles (1300 km) south southeast of Cape Town, South Africa. The station did not burn up as fast as NASA expected, however. Due to a 4% calculation error, debris landed southeast of Perth, Western Australia,[2]:371 and was found between Esperance and Rawlinna, from 31° to 34°S and 122° to 126°E. The Shire of Esperance fined the United States $400 for littering, a fine which remained unpaid for 30 years.[15] The fine was paid in April 2009, when radio show host Scott Barley of Highway Radio raised the funds from his morning show listeners and paid the fine on behalf of NASA. Seventeen-year-old Stan Thornton found a few pieces of Skylab at his home in Esperance and caught a flight to San Francisco, where he collected the Examiner prize.[1 In a coincidence for the organizers, the annual Miss Universe pageant was scheduled to be held a few days later, on 20 July 1979 in Perth. A large piece of Skylab debris was displayed on the stage

The SKYLAB III UFO Encounter - The Evidence and the Contradictions

This presentation begins with a brief history of NASA's "Skylab" program before focusing on a bizarre UFO encounter that occurred on September 20th, 1973, during Flight Day 55 of the Skylab III (SLM-2) mission. This UFO encounter can be classified as a highly credible case as it was witnessed by all three Skylab crew members, with the astronauts observing and photographing the unidentified object for at least a 10-minute period before both Skylab and the UFO crossed the sunset terminator into darkness and visual contact was finally lost. In addition to examining the available official archive evidence about this Skylab III UFO incident, I also thought it relevant in this video to point out several of the contradictions that exist in that official evidence chain. While these inconsistencies do not prove a cover-up about this incident was/is in place at NASA, what should be clear is that IF there was a cover-up in place, these contradictions certainly would have aided in that cover-up because, deliberate or not, they serve to muddle and even conveniently eliminate from the public record some very important evidence related to this sighting that should exist and be available for us to analyze. However, even with those contradictions in the official evidence chain, the Skylab III encounter remains a confirmed UFO sighting that has never been explained. What is certain is that the Skylab III crew had no idea what this bizarre pulsating red object was, and neither does NASA or ...

Apollo Skylab 1 Launch May 14, 1973.mp4

Skylab was a space station launched and operated by NASA, the space agency of the United States. Skylab orbited the Earth from 1973 to 1979, and included a workshop, a solar observatory, and other systems. It was launched, initially unmanned, by a modified Saturn V rocket, and weighed about 77 metric tons in orbit by itself. Three manned missions to the station, conducted between 1973 and 1974 by an Apollo Command/Service Module (CSM) atop the smaller Saturn IB, each delivered a three-astronaut crew. During that time, an additional Saturn IB was on standby for rescuing those in orbit. Numerous scientific experiments were conducted aboard Skylab during its operational life, and crews were able to confirm the existence of coronal holes in the Sun. Thousands of photographs of Earth were taken, and records for human time spent in orbit were extended. Plans were drawn up to refurbish and reuse Skylab, using the Space Shuttle to boost its orbit and repair it; however, in 1979, before the shuttle was ready, Skylab reentered Earth's atmosphere and disintegrated, with debris striking portions of Western Australia.

Another classic Steve Dahl parody song; the original is "Shattered" by the Rolling Stones. Steve wrote this parody in 1979 when NASA's Skylab space station was re-entering the atmosphere and many were unsure of where it would land: en.wikipedia.org Oddly enough for Steve Skylab crashed on July 11th of 1979, one day before the infamous Disco Demolition, where of course the Disco fad crashed as well! Encyclopedias and history books abound with his photos, as he has photographed some of the most widely seen pictures of World War II, the United States space program, and sports events. He is most celebrated for his multiple-exposure photographs. Morse's success as an improviser has led to his being considered Life magazine's specialist in technical photography.[1] Former managing editor George P. Hunt declared that "If [the] equipment he needed didn't exist, [Morse] built it." [2] During his thirty years at Life, Morse covered every type of assignment from science to theater, from fads to spot news. When first hired by Life and sent to photograph World War II, he was the youngest war correspondent. His pictures documented the war's Pacific and European theatres and the post-war reconstruction of Europe. Morse was the civilian photographer at the signing of the surrender by the Germans to General Dwight Eisenhower. He was the senior staff photographer at the time when Life ceased weekly publication.[3] Morse photographed the NASA space program from its inception, an assignment which outlasted Life as ...

1974 Williams Skylab pinball machine

Here's a gameplay video of my 1974 Williams Skylab pinball machine. This game was designed by Steve Kordek with artwork by Christian Marche. The machine is very pretty with deep, rich colours and attractive artwork. I love the backglass and the purple hues on the playfield. Unfortunately, the game is a bit of a snoozer. There's not much going on with this one. Spell SKYLAB to add to your bonus. Move all 5 captive balls to the lit side of the horseshoe at the playfield's centre to get an extra ball. That's about it. The playfield design is similar to Williams 'Jubilee', but has a superior art package and in-lanes for increased ball control. Anyway, the Williams EM's are fun to play. They feel like they're built like tanks and the chimes have a special charm all their own. I find Williams EM's to feel a little more solid than Bally machines from the period, but that might just be my imagination. More info on Skylab can be found here: ipdb.org

video for embedding at scitech.quickfound.net "Skylab was the first US manned space station. This is the story of the three missions and the nine astronauts who occupied the manned laboratory for a total of 171 days." Narrated by EG Marshall. NASA film Hq-239 part 1: www.youtube.com "The Skylab was the Free World's first experimental space station preceded only by a far less sophisticated space station, also experimental in nature, the Salyut of the Soviet Union. Both vehicles were similar in many respects--both contained working areas, the experiment descriptions were similar, both were revisited. However, the space stations were dissimilar in size, Skylab containing 11300 cubic feet and Salyut 3500 cubic feet. Salyut apparently has a propulsion system, whereas Skylab did not. The maximum mission duration for Salyut was 26 days, whereas Skylab extended manned space experience to 84 days. Skylab was stabilized by attitude thrusters. Skylab proved the utility of long-duration manned flight in low earth orbit... The space station, Skylab consisted of several modules, each with a specific function (at least originally) and each manufactured by a different industrial organization. The largest segment, the orbital workshop, served as the main living area and contained eating, sleeping, and waste management facilities. In addition, the workshop contained the medical experiment area and storage of several other experiments. Attached to this section was the section known as the ...
