Mumbai's Slums—the Real Scene Behind "Slumdog Millionaire"
This is Dharavi, Mumbai's largest slum, and it's about to change forever. Once a mangrove swamp on the edge of Mumbai, more than one million people now live in these five-hundred-and-fifty acres. The residents of Dharavi are representative of India's larger poverty problem. This Stanley Foundation video was filmed in April 2008.

Africa's Largest Slum: Kibera
Kibera is located in Nairobi, Kenya. Kibera is known as an illegal settlement, and is therefore not included in Nairobi's public services. Over 1 million people are not receiving the healthcare, schools, city cleanup, adequate restrooms, etc., because they are part of an "illegal settlement." People in Kibera live in 12ftx12ft homes. These homes house up to 8 people or more. At any one time, 50% of all women 16-25 years old living in Kibera are pregnant. Most of these pregnancies are unwanted, resulting in abortions, but not in clinics of course.
