Olympic Ice Tested in Sochi
The rink of the new "Iceberg" Skating Palace was opened for test skating after 100 days of preparations. Students of the winter sports school in Sochi, the Olympic champion and Sochi 2014 Ambassador, Tatyana Navka have had the first chance to test the new ice rink. The first test events - the Grand prix figure skating final - will take place at "Iceberg" in December 2012 and in February 2014 the venue will host Olympic competitions in figure skating and short track.

Sochi 2014 arrives at Winter Youth Olympic Games
The Russian delegation, led by the Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, has arrived in Innsbruck for the Winter Youth Olympic Games, one of the key Olympic milestones before Sochi hosts the Winter Games in 2014. The President and CEO of the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee further underlined Sochi's commitment to its membership of the Olympic Family by running as a torch-bearer in the Youth Torch Relay. Dmitry Chernyshenko takes part in the last leg and will pass the flame to the Austrian Paralympic alpine skiing champion Claudia Loesch.

"Bolshoy" Ice Dome has been filled with the sounds of the Year of Music
To mark the start of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad's Year of Music, the chamber ensemble, "The Soloists of Moscow", featuring Sochi 2014 Ambassador Yuri Bashmet performed for Olympic construction workers in the unique natural scenery of the "Bolshoy" Ice Dome, which is due to be completed in May 2012. The half-hour performance marked the end of an initiative taking place within the framework of the fifth International Yuri Bashmet's Winter Arts Festival which is itself being held as part of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad.

Russian winter resort Krasnaya Polyana (Sochi-2014 "Mountain Cluster")

Sometimes called the "Russian Courchevel", this resort is famous for its well-maintained pistes, quality apres-ski, and overly high prices. The lifts are fast and convenient, the runs are in a very good condition, the local rescue team is considered to be the best in Russia, plus lots of comfortable mini hotels at the village and cozy apres-ski bars. Krasnaya Polyana is located just 45 km from Adler city (a famous summer destination in Russia on the shore of Black Sea) where there is a recently renovated airport and a train station making it the most accessible mountain resort in the European part of Russia. A flight from Moscow takes 2.5 hours, and a transfer to the ski station takes 1.5 hours more. Easy access makes hundreds of Moscow riders spend week-ends at Kransya Polyana during the season (middle of December - begging of March). The locals are very friendly and the resort is completely safe.

Medvedev, Putin make joint slide on Sochi-2014 Olympic slope
An Olympic venue in the Russian city of Sochi has been checked by the country's top officials in an atmosphere of sun, skis and hard rock. Russia's president and Prime Minister paid a visit to the European Ski Cup being held this week. The two were satisfied with the track and the soundtrack for the event, featuring a hard rock classic by Dmitry Medvedev's favourite band, Deep Purple. The pair decided themselves to check out the slope that will see Olympic competitions in full swing in three years time.

About 50000 people work 24 hours a day on the project # Sochi2014. Currently the largest construction site in the world. In February 2014, host city of Sochi Winter Olympics. This winter (in February) in the Mountain Cluster has the first test events: skiing, biathlon, snowboard and freestyle. Sochi will organize in about 2.5 years the most compact Olympic Games ever held. All ice stadiums will be built in a circle within a diameter of not more than two kilometers, including the Olympic village. An amazing project. I visited the coastal cluster in recent days already for the third time this year and saw the enormous progress of the construction. All the stadiums will be ready in time as well as entirely new infrastructure. (183 new properties are built..) The short video shows the construction of the Coastal Cluster on the Black Sea. Enjoy!
