Speaking Somali
After shooting some PTC segments for a video we're doing about Cholera prevention in the Dadaab refugee camp, I decided to take a crack at speaking the Somali language. I've been out here in Kenya for about a month, and I think it's pretty clear that I've got a good ear for languages.

Cases of foreign aggression have been numerous in the recent past leading many to question the capability of Kenya's forces to defend the country's borders. More security personnel have now been deployed in Todonyang in Turkana County and along the Kenya Somali border. NTV's Yassin Juma joined an operation by the First Battalion of the Kenya Army, in Harhara Dobley, to asses just how ready our soldiers are to protect our sovereignty.

Somali Documentary - FGM - 1988
A documentary recorded during the pre-civil war era in Somalia, showing the campaign started by the Revolutioniary Government in eliminating the Female Genital Mutilation (extreme form of gudniin). AJE speaks to Somali model Iman about the crisis
Somalia is the worst affected East African country in the region, hit hard by the prolonged drought that has sparked famine in five areas in the south of the war-ravaged nation. The UN's World Food Programme said on Friday it was still unable to reach 2.2 million hungry people living in areas of southern Somalia controlled by al-Shabaab, whose bloody campaign to topple the government has cost more than 20000 lives. The commander of anti-government forces in Tripoli has told the BBC he wants an apology from Britain and America for the way he was transferred to a prison in Libya in 2004. Abdulhakim Belhaj, who was then a terror suspect, says he was tortured after being arrested in Bangkok and taken to the Libyan capital in an operation organised by the CIA and MI6. Details of his case are included in messages sent to the Gaddafi regime by the two intelligence services.

Somali refugees wishing for quick end to war

Abdiwale spoke during the second joint press conference with Kenyan Prime Miinster Raila Odinga in as many days, after meeting envoys from various European Nations the meeting was organized to drum up support for the military operation against the Al Shabaab, as well as for there building of Somalia after the Al Shabaab threat is contained. It was also an opportunity for Kenya to sell itself as a safe destination for business and tourism, with Prime Minister Raila Odinga telling members from the international community that were gathered that despite the kidnappings that led Kenya into Somalia, Kenya is a secure destination.

Somali children in refugee camps suffer from lack of aid
More than 12 million people in the Horn of Africa are facing starvation, following the worst drought in decades. Many Somali refugees trying to reach camps in Kenya are being prevented from leaving by Al Shabab fighters. As Al Jazeera's Nazanine Moshiri reports from Dadaab,Kenya the children are suffering the most.

On charm offensive? Somali leader meets Museveni
