This is a video of myself opening up a box containing a new Sony HXR-NX5U professional video camera. My daughter got me by surprise the other day and I ended up throwing my camera onto the ground and it became inoperable so it was time to buy a new video camera. This video camera is just like ones they use for recording shows for television. This will make a great addition to the studio. This video is not sponsored by Sony, I bought this due to my daughters trick they played on me causing me to lose one of my cameras to the ground. Quick and dirty little comparison between the 7D and Sony HXR NX5U. I'm shooting a feature on either RED or the 7D this August, however, I won't be available for pick up shots and the only camera that will be there is the Sony. Took some quick shots with both cams to see how they match up in post. Both were set to the same exposure but as you can see the Sony has a good deal less latitude than the 7D. I zoomed in on that focus chart and there was no way to get a sharp image with out going down 2 stops. No need to do that with the 7D and CineStyle. Clearly the NX's smaller sensor leaves something to be desired as well. So the moral of the story here is that if you have to mix RED and NX or 7D and NX watch your contrast ratios and either go full wide or zoomed in so that people don't notice the difference in DoF.

Just playing around with the capability of this camera. It does great in low light and the bridge was shaking from the road traffic. It's not the camera's fault. Minimal post-processing. Great camera.
This is test footage from the Sony HXR NX5U. In this video I test the HXR's manual focus capabilities. If you see closely I am zooming through glass and testing the rack focus extent on this camera. I am soon going to post up more videos showcasing the sound and frame rate.

Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I had no choice but to rush this project and the inconsistency between the masks made compositing it a problem, so i just went with the effect you see and some additional contrast/brightness manipulation to smooth out the transitions..I think it works, but you be the judge. Quite honestly it was the quickest editing job I have ever done...less than an hour...it also only took 20 minutes to shot the video...hope it worked for you...and I wore a different colored T-shirt for each take...so much for that...

Cloning was done using green screen rather than mattes in premiere pro as I knew that the characters would overlap in the final routine. I look clumsy dancing because I am standing on green screen cloth and during the original dance routine the cloth would bunch up and cause shadows. So, I had to lift my feet every time I moved.

There's a bit of super-slo-mo in there, but basically this was in full manual mode. I was on the first ND filter with the aperture open about half way. You can see the colour difference when I manually slow down the 24p footage versus the super slo-mo. I intentionally didn't colour correct this footage so potential buyers of the NX5U can see the differences. Notice the relative smoothness - I'm shooting handheld in the back of a boat doing 35+ mp/h. Pretty nice anti-vibration work, Sony. Nice waterskiing too, Wolf!
