Spektrum has certainly brought a number of innovative features to RC'ers over the years. From the original DSM add-on module systems that freed people from frequency control and interference to the DX3 which introduced us to the first all-in-one Spektrum radio system. Spektrum has taken another leap forward in recent years with advancements like ModelMatch, DSM2 and Marine Technology. The time has come to bring these advanced features to the entry level crowd, all while mixing in a 20-model memory, computerized operation, exponential rates and much more. The result is the amazing DX3C which has features that far surpass its competition. The DX3XC may be classed as a beginner or entry-level radio but don't be fooled - there's a lot going on inside its case. Featuring a sharp and easy-to-read LCD display, scrolling selector operation, 20-model memory and integrated SD Card Slot just to name a few, the DX3C could be a contender for radio of the year— it's that good. Spektrum's Surface Radio Project Manager Blake Good paid us a visit to share some of the outstanding features this radio brings to the table. Questions? Comments? So am I Good or bad The way that things did turn out I did only make you sad And we cried and we cried On the phone Oh, but in my mind You were never that all alone Oh, you were majesty Your roads were heavy And your longing was cut from bone So am I Am I good or bad Could only awake your anger I could only make you mad Now was that how you showed me That you were still so young and bold Anyway those fights did drive me And I was dying of thirst and I wasn't growing old Oh, you were majesty Your ropes were heavy And your roads were very cold Oh, oh, oh, majesty But in my mind I could still climb inside your bed And I could be victorious Still the only man to pass through the glorious arch of your head, o-oh Oh, you were majesty Your ropes were heavy And your cheeks were very red Oh, you were majesty Now it's like I said That spirit, it's now dead
Spektrum/JR DSM2 test (Part 1)

This is part one of my look at the Spektrum/JR 2.4GHz DSM2 radio system, as implemented in a JR DSX9. Please visit the webpage at: www.rcmodelreviews.com for more information on a weakness that I observed when testing the radio. As the video you are watching shows, DSM2 is normally very resistant to interference, by virtue of its two operating channels -- even a powerful video transmitter can't knock it out at close range, so long as one of the operating channels is outside the inteference zone. Please also watch part two of this review. If you're a DSM2 user, feel free to share your comments on this review and my observations.

Spektrum/JR DSM2 test (Part 2)

This is part two of the Spectrum/JR DSM 2.4GHz RC system review. Please read the article at: www.rcmodelreviews.com for some important information uncovered during the testing process. Reboot times are very good, even if the reboot voltage is a little high and although it's not perfect, the Spektrum system has provided many model fliers with a reliable RC system for several years now, and that has to count for something. However, the system is starting to show its age so the question will be: How does Spektrum/JR improve the system without compromising backwards compatibility? It's not the "best" system from a purely technical perspective but at least it's mature and has great support. If you're a Spektrum user, what do you think of your system?

HK Orange Receivers vs Spektrum AR-500- Range testing and servo failures.

See servo failures, UBEC testing, and HK Orange Receiver Range tests vs Spektrum AR-500 Receiver while Range testing with my Turkey Baster Can. Then see the full range testing in the car. Typical Range of the Spektrum DX6i Transmitter is approx 3000 feet and with that test it resulted with the following relative formula. 5 feet from the can equaled approx 480 feet 10 feet from the can equaled approx 793 feet 15 feet from the can equaled approx 1156 feet 20 feet from the can equaled approx 1780 feet All 3 of these HK orange park flyer receivers are flyable, based on these results. However, I do not have faith in the Hobby King Turnigy servos for this plane, so reverted to some good old (made in USA Kraft KPS 15 II Servos) The HK UBEC has been working flawlessly, however a 4.8 v receiver battery would be less likely to fail than this UBEC using a 7.4 LiPo. Stay tuned to see the building tips of the PT 19, engine starting, and flying. Remember "If it sounds stupid but it works, it ain't stupid!" I converted my Air Swimmer to 2.4 Spektrum and re-designed the Weight Transfer system.

*Please read this* I love the Air Swimmers and even have been getting prepared for the next race. But I was not happy with the Infra Red controller, as I kept aiming it towards the ground and loosing control. It also gets interferred with by others, including the Fluorescent lights. So I decided to put in one of the inexpensive Orange Receivers from HobbyKing.com and change to digital proportional control. ToysRUS sells a radio version, but still it's only 40 Mhz. I wanted Spektrum. So the setup I designed for the tail fin works great, but the weight transfer system turned out to be just 12 grams too heavy and disappointing. Just a slightly bigger fish (more helium) would fix this, however. Therefore, I decided to see if I could completely re-designed it to keep it simple and light. It now works very precisely, as you will see. I can easily guide it around with more control and the comfort of a real transmitter. (Synchronized Swimming) I hope you enjoyed seeing this video and what a person can do if they set their mind to it. Please take a moment rate the video, subscribe, and stay tuned for more RC Television shows. Thanks kindly for all your support. HorizonRC.com Review - Spektrum DX3E

Spektrum technology has made RC more convenient and safer for years. However there has never been a true entry-level radio from Spektrum—until now. The Spektrum DX3E addresses the needs of drivers out there that are looking to take advantage of Spektrum technology at a lower cost of entry. While it would have been easy to create a bare-bones radio system, thats not the way Spektrum designs things. The DX3E is crammed with features that are normally exclusive to more expensive radio systems. From its included SR300 receiver, three-channel operation, Marine and DSM2 capabilities, this is one radio that really performs. Weve installed the DX3E in a few different vehicles to put them to the test to see how well they work in various conditions. Technical Specs Manufacturer: Spektrum Product: DX3E 3-channel Transmitter Part Number: SPM3160 Product Type: Transmitter and Receiver Target Audience: First-Time Spektrum Users Final Thoughts: The DX3E really represents new ground for Spektrum. Its a full-featured radio without a full-featured price attached to it. For great features such as throttle and steering endpoints, a programmable third channel option and more, the DX3E fits the bill quite nicely. Whether youre looking at crawling, short course trucks, on-road driving, or even boats—the DX3E is a very good value. It provides that same connected feeling that youd expect from radios costing much more. The SR300 is a proven commodity and the S200 is a nice addition to the Spektrum <b>...</b>

You will be able to find more information or purchase the DX8 at this link: www.horizonhobby.com Spektrum has released a new 8-channel DX8, and has us all wondering what is in store for RC pilots when they get a chance to use this radio. Of course it has the Spektrum DSM technology, but with real-time telemetry this system represents a breakthrough in 8-channel sport-level radios. The pilot will now have the ability to monitor signal quality as well as things like Receiver Pack voltage, cylinder head temperature, rpm, and flight pack voltage as well as many other things. All this information will be visible right from the transmitter screen. But there is much more to the new radio than the telemetry. Matt McCarty, Spektrum product developer, will give us some insight into the DX8 and just what it can do for RC pilots around the globe. Some Features: • 30-model internal memory with SD card • Includes AR8000 8-channel High-Speed Receiver • Update capability with the included SD card • High-speed 11ms frame rate with 2048 resolution • 8 Wing types and 5 Tail types are available for nearly all aircraft types • Active gain and governor trim allows for in-flight adjustment of the gyro gain and rpm • Programmable Telemetry Warnings provide both tone and/or vibration alerts • Programmable timer with throttle stick timer startup • Includes TM1000 Full Range Telemetry Module providing real-time Flight Log data, receiver voltage, flight pack voltage, rpm and temperature Questions <b>...</b>

**NOTE (2011-12-21), this mod has been superseded by the miru mod now. It's a new mod that doesn't use WiFi anymore. You can use your own transmitter but doesn't require wifi. The arduino plugs directly into the drone's USB socket. It's a LOT simpler to setup than the MHeeLi mod. But this video still has lots steps that is involved with the miru mod like, programming, and receiver setup. Check out the miru mod here: www.rcgroups.com --------- Following the guide from MHeeLi at www.rcgroups.com More pics here: kenbuys.com This mod will let you use a regular 2.4ghz transmitter with the Ar. HorizonRC.com How-To: Bind Your Spektrum Transmitters and Receivers

One thing that has changed over the last number of years is how you configure your receiver and transmitter to work with each other. Initially you needed to make sure each was on the same frequency by installing a crystal into each. That was improved upon when synthesized radios and receivers provided all the frequencies in the specific band in one package. Spektrum DSM technology is the next step in this evolution. To get a receiver and transmitter to work together you must perform a binding process. Many of us take binding for granted after having done it for as long as we have, but if you've never done it before you may have some questions. We've gathered a number of different DSM and DSM2 receivers to demonstrate the binding process in the video below. In addition to showing you how to bind your receiver we're also going to cover how to set your failsafe as well. We're also hoping to answer a few common questions regarding the binding process and why it's even necessary. What Is Binding? Binding is the process of training the transmitter and receiver to communicate with each other. Each radio and receiver have a unique code, called a GUID (Global Unique Identification Code) Code. This is your radio system's thumbprint that prevents it from interfering with other radio systems or being interfered with by other radio systems. How Often Is Binding Necessary? Anytime you purchase a new receiver it will need to be bound to your radio. Also if you are transferring a <b>...</b>

RCModelReviews almost weekly news #12 - Spektrum's DSMX

There really is only one thing to talk about in this week's news -- Horizon and Spektrum have announced the launch of a new 2.4GHz RC protocol for their RC aircraft systems, called DSMX. Unlike the old pick-and-stick 2-frequency system known as DSM2, DSMX is an "agile" system that moves its DSSS signal around the band, following a pseudorandom pattern across a total of 23 channels. Good on Spektrum and Horizon for admitting that their existing DSM2 spread spectrum system is (as I have said for a long time) no longer capable of always coping with the noise found on an increasingly congested 2.4GHz band. I will be reviewing the DSMX system as soon as I can lay my hands on one. Or who knows -- maybe Horizon will be so confident in this new protocol that they will submit a system for an RCModelReviews fully-objective review.

Spektrum DX8 - Helicopter Setup

I'm not a pro pilot but after questions about making some videos how to setup planes and helis on my DX8 i finaly did the work. I left out to tell that Throttlecut shuts down the engine and is used for Nitro/gas engines. Throttle hold is used for electric and nitro. Hold makes engine just idle on nitros and cuts power for electric engine. These two settings must be asigned to different switches. You don't wanna cut your nitro engine during autos. This is how i do it and that doesn't meen it's right. But if there are somethings to add please post a comment with your tip. Make sure to subscribe
Odd Nordstoga & Sissel Kyrkjebø - Dagane (Oslo Spektrum, Nov. 2009)

Written by Odd Nordstoga. The title means "The Days". Live at the Christmas concert in Oslo Spektrum, Oslo, Norway, Nov. 28, 2009. With the symphony orchestra Trondheimsolistene and a band consisting of Rune Arnesen, Gjermund Silset, Per Kolstad, Skjalg Raaen and Daniel Sandén-Warg. The song is released on Odd Nordstoga's album "Heim te mor" (2006). More from the same concert here on YouTube: www.youtube.com My amateur translation of the lyrics: The Days Once the caresses came all by themselves And each day was filled with silver For you gilded each moment with a free mind And dazzled I joined your journey Days like sand flow from our hands If you doubt, then feel One like the other goes with the wind And the time we have goes there Promise that you'll stay with me all your days Yes, we made that promise together So I gave you a ring, it was easily done Then that day too sneaks quietly away So far away So far away Like the wind can chase the blue waves There will I follow you, my friend There will we find them again And outside sneaks the devil and separates you from me And if we had known, we would have taken off And I'd have carried you on my arm through forest and over mountain And you'd have held my hand through gorge and dark ravine And I'd have reached out for you And you'd have reached out for me So far away So far away So far as the sun can follow the blue waves There will I follow you, my friend There will we find them again

HorizonRC.com Preview- Spektrum DX3S (Part 2 of 4)

One of the most unique features of Spektrum DSM technology is its ability to take advantage of real-time onboard telemetry information. With previous telemetry setups you were required to use a separate handheld telemetry unit to record the data. The newest radio from Spektrum eliminates that need and combines Spektrums patent pending 2.4GHz DSM protocol with an integrated telemetry system to create an all-in-one solution. That solution is a reality thanks to the Spektrum DX3S. The DX3S has taken many design cues from the race-oriented DX3R and for good reason. The DX3S is a very lightweight and ergonomic radio with all the main features at your fingertips. The DX3S also shares the intuitive roller selector for easy one-hand operation. The video below provides you with an interesting overview of this new radio along with a walk-through of the different menu options and layouts.

HorizonRC.com Preview - Spektrum DX2S

The Spektrum DX3S has been extremely popular since its release thanks to its intuitive design, user-friendly scroller selector and on-board telemetry. For those looking to get all those benefits on a tighter budget, Spektrum has developed the 2-channel Spektrum DX2S. All those features that made the DX3S special are all here in the DX2S. Being a budget-friendly radio doesn't mean that a radio has to be cheap or lack features. The DX2S is very feature-rich with its on-board telemetry, DSM2 compatibility and marine technology all here in one package. We've caught up with Spektrum's Blake Good to go over some of the key features of this new radio. We learn about all the specifics from how the DX2S comes equipped, what receivers it is compatible with and much more. From the included servo, SR3300T receiver and more this appears to be one excellent addition to the Spektrum Radio Family. These links should look like this: Questions? Comments?
