Classic Game Room reviews SPY HUNTER for the NES Nintendo Entertainment System. Spy Hunter is the 1983 classic from Bally Midway where you play as a spy driving a car and boat that blasts enemy vehicles and helicopters while dodging innocent civilians. Players score points as they drive and cover distance. Spy Hunter is as old school arcade challenging as it gets and will punish all but the most skilled players with unpredictable enemies and bad guys looking to run you off the road. Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of the arcade smash hit SPY HUNTER, now made into a commercial by GM and Pontiac that we call the "Pontiac Spy Hunter Commercial" paying tribute to the Mach 5 style of the Spy Hunter-mobile. Spy Hunter is retro video gaming at its finest, but does the Atari version live up to the coin-op machine in the arcades? You drive a James Bond kind of a car with machine guns and oil slick and blow up enemy bad guys on the road and on the seas... or rivers. Sort of like the scene in Live in Let Die where Roger Moore drives a speedboat through the everglades or something... Maybe the new James Bond movie will be called Spyhunter and he'll drive the Mach 5 and the next Bond girl will be Trixie from Speed Racer. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. As a cabinet-style arcade game, Spy Hunter was produced in both sit-down and standard upright versions with the latter being more common.[citation needed] The game's controls consist of a steering wheel in the form of a futuristic aircraft-style yoke with several special-purpose buttons, a two-position stick shift (offering 'low' and 'high' gears), and a pedal used for acceleration. It is a single-player game. Game Play: Spy Hunter is an action/driving game with the player in the role of a spy driving an armed sportscar. The object of the game is to travel the freeway destroying as many enemy vehicles as possible while protecting civilian vehicles. The game is a top-down vertical scroller. Early versions of the game used the James Bond theme by Monty Norman, but the inability to obtain the rights to use the music forced Midway to change this theme. As a result, an arrangement of Henry Mancini's theme to Peter Gunn plays throughout. The game begins with the player driving the fictitious G-6155 Interceptor. Enemy vehicles try to destroy the player's car or to force it off the road. Points are scored for distance traveled (a counter increments the score while the car is moving) and for destroying enemy vehicles. The sequel to the original Spy Hunter... some say this is the worst game sequel ever but I digress- Asteroids Deluxe and Vanguard II hold those titles, and some others as well... Not as great as the original but still worth a once over at the least anyway... Spyhunter GBA Gameplay Part 1
Yep it's The New Spyhunter for the Game Boy Advance. I like this one better than the Original. This version is great but the PS2 version is just a little better. The game has some really nice textures, Good music (even though I turned it off), Almost perfect sound and great Missions. There are also a couple of problems like If you fail 3 or more objectives you Fail the whole mission and Sometimes it gets really hard. Otherwise a great game to play
