The airport reopened on Saturday night for a handful of arriving flights, and officials expected around 70 percent of the scheduled arrivals and departures to go on as planned early on Sunday. I started to tape the weather because a Southwest Jet blew away from the gate, we then we all evacuated. Unfortunately, not much weather on the clip.
Started In Clinton, IL..Drove south to Pana and then over to between Litchfield and St Louis, to intercept a severe t-storm. As I got to it, it became tornado warned. As I got around the front of it to try and get to the southwest side and get up into the "notch" the wallcloud became visible. Followed it about 20-25 miles east to Okawville, IL and then on to the rt 51 and I-64 intersection. It had weakened and a new tornado warning had been issued for St Louis, so I headed back east to intercept. As I got to about 30 miles from St Louis, the warning was cancelled and the cell became a heavy rain producer.

It was pretty quiet at first, but then I heard "ping, ping.." and saw the hail starting to fall. The tornado reached a maximum intensity of EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale as it tracked through the community of Bridgeton, just west of Lambert St. Louis International Airport, in St. Louis County. The total path length was 21.3 miles, with a width of up to half a mile. The tornado initially touched down along the northern edge of Creve Coeur Lake at approximately 759 pm. It tracked nearly due east at about 40 mph, and intensified as it entered Maryland Heights. There it produced up to EF3 damage to many homes and businesses with a damage swath of 200 to 400 yards wide. Damage continued eastward in an unbroken track, crossing I-270 about 1 mile south of I-70. This is the actual TV coverage as the Maryland Heights tornado was doing damage. I live in St. Ann and this tornado actually missed us by just 0.8 of a mile. There is actually a point in the video where you can tell the tornado was near our house as the satellite signal actually fragments at 9:07 in the video. We are directly south of the airport by about 3/4 of a mile and the airport was hit at 8:12pm. We lost our signal @ 8:10pm, but recovered it by 8:11.
