León Guanajuato México

The city of León, formally León de los Aldama is the sixth most populous city in Mexico and the first in the state of Guanajuato. It is also the seat of the municipality of León. It has a strong leather industry, offering shoes, boots, belts, jackets, and other leather accessories both to national and international markets. Its first-class services and hotel industry turn it into one of the most important centers in Mexico with numerous options of entertainment, gastronomy, leisure activities, arts and recreation. It is also considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities in Mexico and has a high number of cyclists, in part because of its integration a network of bike lanes to the SIT system. Guanajuato Mexico, Exploring the Beautiful Historic Downtown

Guanajuato is a beautiful colonial city in the heart of Mexico. It was established in the 1600s and was a crucial city during the war for Mexican independence from Spain. The city is littered with amazing historic buildings including the Basilica, Teatro Juarez and the Alhóndiga de Granaditas. These buildings were constructed with lime mortars and have stood the test of time shining strong still today. Transcript: Hi, I'm Sean, I'm here right now in downtown Guanajuato in the state of Guanajuato Mexico. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site city and it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm going to give you a tour and show you some of the incredibly historically significant buildings here and how they've been preserved so lets take a look. This is the Basilica of Guanajuato, it was constructed between 1671 and 1696 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Basilica is the centerpiece of the historic downtown and is situated right beside the University of Guanajuato. This is one of the many examples of historic buildings constructed with lime mortar still standing tall today. El Teatro Juarez was inaugurated in 1903 after 30 years under construction, cost 2 million dollars and was considered the finest theater in the Americas if not the world. Today, the theater still retains all of its original furnishings including the original lamp posts and muses commissioned by WH Mullins from Ohio in 1875. The Alondiga de Granaditas was a very significant building during the fight for Mexican ...

"Featuring 36 accidental mummies on loan from the Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato, the exhibition combines science, history and cultural anthropology to immerse the visitor in the world of a Mexican city over 100 years ago where deceased residents naturally mummified in their crypts. This will be the very first time these mummies have been seen in the Southwest United States. "The mummies are part of the heritage and culture of the State of Guanajuato. The exhibition showcases the sciences, traditions and beliefs of the State of Guanajuato, located in the heart of Mexico. Guanajuato, Mexico

is a state in the central highlands of Mexico. It shares its name with its capital city, Guanajuato, Guanajuato. Guanajuato means "place of frogs" in the local indigenous language. The local Tarascan Indians believed that the frog represented the god of wisdom. A rock formation outside of Guanajuato, looks like frogs. ' Las Ranas " is the way to reference anyone from this state as frogs are their state animal. After central Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico coast, Guanajuato was one of the first areas of Mexico colonized by the Spanish, in the 1520s, for its rich silver deposits. Guanajuato's colonial architecture is very well preserved along with over 35 old churches in its capital alone, and is very European in nature.

Mineral De Pozos - Guanajuato, Mexico.

The quantity and quality of the silver lodes in what is today central and norhtern Guanajuato state led the spanish colonial authorities to make mining a top priority, as an enterprise with worldwide repercussions. This resulted in an increase in the granting of the status of reales de minas (mining districts established by royal decree). Around the entrances to these mines, towns sprouted up. The civil and religious buildings that were constructed are representative of the baroque period and are mexican mining's legacy to the Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

San Miguel de Allende - Photographed by Charles Stutts

San Miguel de Allende is a city and municipality located in the far eastern part of the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico. It is 274 km from Mexico City and 97 km from the state capital of Guanajuato. Historically, the town is important as being the birthplace of Ignacio Allende, whose surname was added to the town's name in 1826, as well as the first municipality declared independent of Spanish rule by the nascent insurgent army during the Mexican War of Independence. However, the town waned during and after the war, and at the beginning of the 20th century was in danger of becoming a ghost town. Its Baroque/Neoclassical colonial structures were "discovered" by foreign artists who moved in and began art and cultural institutes such as the Instituto Allende and the Escuela de Bellas Artes. This gave the town a reputation, attracting artists such as David Alfaro Siqueiros, who taught painting.

Massive Drug Gang Arrests in Mexico

Isaac "Dany" or "Martin" Godoy Castro, together with another six alleged drug traffickers from the Arellano Felix clan were arrested in Tijuana, Baja California. The men were operating under the orders of Fernando "the engineer" Sanchez Arellano, their cartel heir. This drug gang is one of three remaining from the old cartel fighting for the control of Tijuana -- a main drug entrance route into the United States. The family-run Sanchez Arellano cartel started up in the 1980s. It began disintegrating over the past few years, since many brother members were arrested or died at shootouts with security forces and rival gangs. But these are not the only arrests. In Irapuato in the state of Guanajuato, Mexican police also arrested four alleged drug traffickers. These men allegedly belong to the criminal gang "La Familia" (The Family) based in the state of Michoacan. They tried to exhort a merchant who reported them to the police. [Carlos Zamarripa, Attorney General]: "They are all part of the same organization (La Familia). That's the link we have and with regards to other cases they could be linked to, such as kidnappings, drug trafficking and other extortions, they are under investigation." US President, Barack Obama visited Mexico last week and promised to reinforce security along the US-Mexican border. He also promised a crack down on the flow of American weapons into Mexico that has helped drug gangs amass huge arsenals.

Church appeals to Mexican Cartels for peace during Pope's visit 02-08-12

Guanajuato, Mexico (NTN24) - Just one month ahead of Pope Benedict's tour of Mexico, the central Mexican state of Guanajuato is gearing up for one of its biggest events ever. As church officials ready for the visit, growing fears of cartel violence are raising concerns ahead of the pontiff's visit after one drug gang unfurled banners advising rivals not to stoke violence in the region. Signed by the notorious Los Caballeros Templarios (the Knights Templar), the large signs warned drug foes not to muscle in on lucrative trafficking routes for the cartel and keep the peace during the papal tour. Last month, the local archbishop Jose Guadalupe Rabago had personally urged drug cartels to refrain from violence during the Pontiff's stay. Responding positively to the banners, a spokesperson for the archdiocese told Reuters that the messages were proof that gangs were listening to church officials. "With the banners from the drug cartel they want to form a truce as a result of what the Archbishop Jose Guadalupe Rabago appealed for. However, we insist that we do not just want a truce but we want a moment of reflection that brings about a better Mexico," said Jorge Raul Villegas. Although the central state has been largely spared from the worst of the country's drugs violence, rival gangs such as the Zetas and Sinaloa drug cartel have been battling with the Knights Templar's for lucrative trafficking routes in the region. With hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world ...
