ODAY host Lisa Wilkinson was the victim of a prank when her phone rang on air this morning, her co-host Karl Stefanovic has revealed. As a taped segment ended, a loud ring erupted from below the desk, seemingly taking both presenters by surprise. "Is that yours?" Stefanovic asked. "I've got an awful feeling it is?" Stefanovic has now revealed the phone call was a prank on Wilkinson, with sports presenter Ben Fordham actually making the call from the side of the desk. "She leaves her phone on the set all the time, so it was all about teaching her a lesson," Stefanovic told ninemsn. "She fell for it hook, line and sinker." An embarrassed Wilkinson is now planning her revenge. "Clearly Karl's an excellent liar, and Ben is too," she joked. "I didn't pick it, and I normally do. "Georgie (Gardner) and I are cooking up something up as we speak." Wilkinson said that the others also have their phones on the set to allow them to keep up to date with the newswires, but she had turned hers off before going to air. "My phone wasn't on — they switched it on," she said. "That's why I was so shocked." Coincidentally, the prank followed a segment from reporter Mike Dalton which included a joke about turning mobile phones off

KARL Stefanovic reprised his drunken on-air performance after the 2009 Logies at Richard Wilkins' book launch on Thursday night with a speech that left the room both shocked and in stitches. Stefanovic admitted he had been out for most of the day with Nine head-honcho David Gyngell before launching into a passionate description of his Today show mate. "I know three things about Richard Wilkins: great bloke, big hair, massive c ... k," was his opening line to an audience that included Wilkins' fiancee Rebecca Naso and some of his five children. "That's all I know. I know all the press are here, yada, yada, yada - but sometimes, like Tom Cruise in that film, you just have to say, 'What the f ... .'." The room at Kit and Kaboodle in Kings Cross roared with laughter before he continued: "In the '80s you were the Don Bradman of rooting - seriously bro'. Most of us in the '80s walked into a bar and thought, 'I reckon I might be a chance with that bird, maybe if she has a lot to drink'. But Dicky walks into a bar in the '80s and goes, 'I'm 99.94'.' Wilkins told us it "was all in good fun" and it seemed to be from the reactions of Gyngell, Kerri-Anne-Kennerley, Vanessa Amorosi and the powerbrokers of Sydney's PR and media scene.
