Stoke v Liverpool - Dalglish on Bellamy and Andy Carroll fitness | English Premier League 2011

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has defended Andy Carroll following recent criticism of the striker's lifestyle from England coach Fabio Capello. Carroll was a subtitute in England's win against Wales after Capello said: "If he wants to be a good player he needs to drink less than the others." But Dalglish insisted: "His fitness would stand up against anybody's. "I don't think his lifestyle is anything like you want it to be to write a story." Continue reading the main story [Andy] has great respect for Fabio Capello and I think Fabio Capello has great respect for Andy Carroll Kenny Dalglish The Liverpool boss added: "Andy was not properly fit last season because of a knee injury. "We are pleased with his fitness this season because he's lost that injury." Carroll, 22, has started two of Liverpool's first four games in his first full season at Anfield following his move from Newcastle in January. The forward has scored once, in a substitute appearance in the Carling Cup victory at Exeter. - but netted twice against Manchester City last season in a 3-0 win. Dalglish added: "I think Andy is very appreciative of advice from anyone who has a good standing in football. "I think he appreciates Fabio Capello's advice because he has great respect for Fabio Capello and I think Fabio Capello has great respect for Andy Carroll."

Stoke 2-1 West Ham United | The FA Cup 6th Round

Stoke vs West Ham United, R6, The FA Cup 6th Round - 13/03/11 Danny Higginbotham's fierce free-kick sank West Ham and sent Stoke into their first FA Cup semi-final for 39 years as they edged a fast and furious game that was full of controversy. After Robert Huth headed the Potters in front, referee Mike Jones angered both sides with his decisions, first allowing Frederic Piquionne's equaliser to stand despite an apparent handball and then awarding Stoke a cheap penalty which Robert Green saved brilliantly. Jones also played a key part in Higginbotham's winner, awarding the Potters another free-kick for handball in the wall when Jermaine Pennant's initial effort was blocked. But once the dust settles, it would be a shame if the officials were to be the main post-match talking point because this was a full-blooded cup tie that saw plenty of endeavour by both teams. Roared on by the home fans, Stoke made a breathless start and Pennant sent over two dangerous crosses from the right in the first two minutes, with Matthew Etherington getting on the end of one of them to force a fine save from Green. The visitors were given notice of what was to come when Huth headed wide from a Rory Delap long throw but failed to heed the warning, allowing the German defender to rise unmarked to meet another Delap catapult and plant his header into the net after 12 minutes. Stoke deserved their advantage and they looked to build on their lead with Etherington continuing his busy wing-play down ...

Redknapp rages at referee after Stoke loss

Tottenham's 11-match unbeaten league run ended as Matthew Etherington scored twice against his old club to hand Stoke a third straight league win. One of four former Spurs players to feature for the hosts, Etherington tapped in to open the scoring. He doubled the lead with a scuffed strike from Ryan Shotton's long throw before Emmanuel Adebayor converted a penalty after a foul on Luka Modric. Tottenham pushed for an equaliser but faded once Younes Kaboul was sent off. It was a harsh dismissal for a second yellow card and Spurs were also aggrieved with several other decisions by referee Chris Foy. Peter Crouch appeared to handle in the build-up to Etherington's opener, Ryan Shawcross cleared a Kaboul shot off the line at 2-1 and, in the scramble that followed, Adebayor saw a strike incorrectly ruled out for offside. Jermain Defoe also felt one of his shots was blocked by a hand. The defeat stops Tottenham's winning streak in the league at six games and leaves them five points behind second-placed Manchester United with a game in hand. Stoke have been in impressive form in recent weeks and are now up to eighth in the table. Their previous two league meetings with Spurs at the Britannia ended in defeat but they made the more purposeful start on this occasion - with Crouch, Etherington, Jonathan Woodgate and eventual substitute Wilson Palacios up against their old team. There was no place in the side for Rory Delap but long-throw duties fell to Shotton and he proved a highly ...

Stoke 3-0 Brighton | The FA Cup 5th Round

Stoke v Brighton, R5, The FA Cup 5th Round - 19/02/11 The FA Cup sponsored by E.ON Stoke scored three goals in the first half as they booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the expense of League One leaders Brighton. The Premier League side took the lead in the 14th minute when John Carew headed in Rory Delap's long throw-in. Stoke's second goal was scored by Jon Walters after he nodded Marc Wilson's cross across keeper Peter Brezovan. The third came shortly before the break when Ryan Shawcross headed in Wilson's flick from Jermaine Pennant's corner. Stoke only managed six attempts on target but they scored from three, while the visitors did not manage to test Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen until the second half. Tony Pulis's side were helped on their way by Seagulls stopper Brezovan, who will not look back on this match with great fondness. The 6ft 6in 31-year-old Czech keeper replaced regular choice Casper Ankergren as a reward for helping Brighton reach the fifth round. However, manager Gus Poyet may have been rueing his loyalty to Brezovan after two early errors resulted in his side being 2-0 down after only 22 minutes. Stoke's first goal came courtesy of another dangerous Delap throw-in, which was flicked in by Carew past the Brezovan, who appeared to flap at the delivery. And the shot-stopper then failed to get anywhere near a header from Walters after Wilson had played a great one-two with Pennant before whipping in a delightful cross. Shawcross then went ...
