My Sad Captains - The Homefront Pt.II - Official
DOWNLOAD THIS SONG FREE HERE snd.sc My Sad Captains return to the fray with a new song available as a free download in conjunction with Saatchi Online and featuring exclusive new artwork by the band. The dreamy kraut-folk of the 'The Homefront Pt II' is released by Stolen Recordings (Pete and the Pirates, Bo Ningen, JEFF the Brotherhood) and eschews the more traditional, pop song structures of their debut album, gradually building as sounds and melodies weave in and out of an uninterrupted, motorik groove. The band decamped to an isolated barn in Cornwall to record the new material, which was mixed by Tape Op magazine founder Larry Crane (Elliott Smith, Stephen Malkmus, Quasi) at Jackpot! in Portland, OR. The artwork is by MSC guitarist Nick Goss, who is a painter and previously exhibited in 'Newspeak' at the Saatchi Gallery. The band will host an evening of live performances at the Saatchi Gallery later this summer, as part of an ongoing series of gigs in art spaces. Having previously played at the Josh Lilley Gallery, the band will play 'Primitive Accumulation' at the Fold Gallery in London Fields on May 30th, a show curated by Captains bassist Dan Davis that also features Goss. They will also perform at the opening of Richard T Walker's show at Spike Island, Bristol in July. The song is now released digitally after initially only being available on 'Stolen 6', the very limited Stolen Recordings Record Store Day compilation.

In 2001, Justin Johnson & Chris O'Connor (3PO) launched a brand new label from the depths of the lower east side in New York City called Cable Recordings. At the time, Chris and Justin were the two most senior employees at Satellite Records and were roommates in a Brooklyn loft near Bushwick. Their mission was to connect all the sounds that they loved into their own sound. Their first offering Stolen was influenced by their surroundings, their peers, their DJ gigs, and their love for bangin' house music. They took the dirtiness of the subways, the grime of the sidewalks, and the magnificence of the skyscrapers and turned them into a stompin' Tribal House stormer, which embodied the sound of the dance floors of New York City at that time. The B-Side featured an amazing remix from long time friend and collaborator John Selway whose progressive Tribal Techno sound had already taken the world by storm. Indeed, it was Selway's remix that helped bring the spotlight to Cable by being licensed to mix compilations on Fabric (Slam), Ultra (Taylor), and Moonshine (Dave Aude), as well as being featured in an episode of Showtime's 'Queer As Folk'. Shortly after its release, DJ-Sets.com grabbed it and brokered remixes from Angel Alanis and Len Faki, and gave the tracks even more exposure. Casey told police she worked at Universal Studios and took them there to seek evidence. Once they got there, after parading through corriders and so forth Casey finally admitted that she hadn't worked there for a while. The Pirates' idiosyncratic and endearing song writing puts them somewhere between the Flying Nun band Tall Dwarfs and the wistful reflection of On The Beach-era Neil Young. The band was formed in 2005 and consists of Tommy Sanders (vocals), Peter Cattermoul (bass/vocals), David Thorpe (guitar), Jonny Sanders (drums) and Peter Hefferan (guitar/vocals). Their debut album Little Death was produced by Gareth Parton (The Killers, The Go! Team, The Futureheads and Neil's Children) and was released in January 2007.
