Bongzilla - Amerijuanican Album - Amerijuanican Bongzilla is a stoner metal band from Madison, Wisconsin. As their name suggests, most of their material is related to marijuana and promotes its legalization. The band formed in 1995, and over the next three years recorded and released a dozen songs on EPs and split singles. In 1998 they signed to Relapse Records, and have since released four studio albums and a live album through the label. Hastily cobbled together stoner-doom with a bit of casual noodling. The Wadsworth constant strongly applies. If you get tired of the slow part, skip ahead to the fast and heavy part at 2:37. I've been playing for a little over 2 years now and I love all sorts of drone, doom and stoner metal. This short collection of riffs is an attempt at stoner doom with a touch of drone flavor. My gear includes a Line 6 UX2, "Fuzz Machine" Fuzz Factory clone, SX Furrian and a Schecter C-1 Classic. Recorded with Audacity. I opted to use my own effects over the PC modeling software for a little analog coloration. Keep an eye out for music from the yet un-named thrash metal band in which I play bass.

What is stoner rock & stoner metal?
I've been a fan of this genre for a long time but in the end, what is stoner rock/metal?... I listen to over 50-60 stoner rock bands and they don't always sound like each other at all. Sometimes hard to understand how they're being categorized into the same genre. But anyway here's me comparing Sleep and Kyuss. I didn't have anything by them on my mac so I just recorded a few clips on my studio program. Enjoy.

Taking inspiration from Black Sabbath they helped write the book for traditional doom metal. They are often mislabeled as a Christian Metal band, but this is not totally the case...they've written songs that touch on Christian themes but by no means do they fall under the label completely. Their first three albums all wave the traditional doom flag while later releases had a more stoner metal flair. They went on hiatus for a while after Plastic Green Head but re-formed in 2002 for some reunion shows and Eric Wagner was even featured on Dave Grohl's Probot project. The band recorded a DVD live in Stockholm, Sweden and they released their newest effort in 2007 along with re-issues of Psalm 9 and The Skull.
