Meet Struga villages - Gorna Belica
Gorna Belica is situated 16 km northwest of Struga. The village is now mostly the weekend residence of Strugites, but it has a fine Vlach church, a high view onto Ohrid Lake, proximity to the Via Egnatia and good hiking up to a glacial lake and a cave church. The village became a settlement in 1769, when Aromanians (Vlachs) of Moskopole, in southern Albania, were expelled of that town by the destruction commited by the local Ottoman bey, and moved up here with all their animals, belongings and families. They chose this place along the River Belica, where villagers believe that the old decrepit Church of Sv Clement is no less than his actual 9th-century summer monastery from before he moved to Ohrid permanently as bishop... Meet Struga villages: Kalishta
On the way to Radozda, 5 km from Struga, is the small settlement and monastery complex of Kalishta, located right on the shores of the lake and next to the Hotel Biser. The monastery is the summer residence of Archbishop Naum, the highest church official in the Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church. The Monastery complex of Kalishta is placed on the coast of Ohrid Lake in a natural rocky environment. This stavropighial complex - which is directly under the authority of the Archbishop of a Macedonian Orthodox Church, consists of four churches: two dedicated to the Nativity of Our Most holy Mother of God (one old, in a cave and one new), a Church dedicated to Sts. Peter and Paul, the apostoles, and one dedicated to St. Athanasius the Great (in a cave). Next to abandoned Hotel Izgrev there is small hill from which streches a beautiful view for the village, mountains and the lake... Struga is a beautiful town in Macedonia. Placed by the famous Ohrid Lake and the beautiful river Drim, the town is a wonderful summer destination. With low prices, famous traditional meals including local fish specialties, well organized night life and day parties on the beaches, Struga is tourist - full every summer. It offers mountain tourism as well, for those who want to spent quiet vacation, or a peacefull holiday outside of the town, in nearby settlements by the lake. It is a dreamy, "must sее" place.
