Iwo Jima 1945 - original footage

The Battle of Iwo Jima (February 19 -- March 26, 1945), or Operation Detachment, was a battle in which the United States fought for and captured Iwo Jima from Japan. The US invasion was charged with the mission of capturing the two airfields on Iwo Jima. The battle produced some of the fiercest fighting in the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The Japanese positions on the island were heavily fortified, with vast bunkers, hidden artillery, and 18 km (11 mi) of underground tunnels. The Americans were covered by extensive naval and air support, capable of putting an enormous amount of firepower onto the Japanese positions. The battle was the first American attack on the Japanese Home Islands, and the Imperial soldiers defended their positions tenaciously. Of the more than 18000 Japanese soldiers present at the beginning of the battle, only 216 were taken prisoner. The rest were killed or were missing and assumed dead. Despite heavy fighting and casualties on both sides, Japanese defeat was assured from the start. The Americans possessed an overwhelming superiority in arms and numbers—this, coupled with the impossibility of Japanese retreat or reinforcement, ensured that there was no plausible scenario in which the United States could have lost the battle. The battle was immortalized by Joe Rosenthal's photograph of the raising of the US flag on top of the 166 m (545 ft) Mount Suribachi by five Marines and one Navy Corpsman. The photograph records the second flag-raising on ...

The United States fought two battles here -- the US Marines at Iwo Jima against the Japanese, and the US Navy against the typhoon. During the now-legendary events depicted in this episode, the series reaches the final throes of battle in the Pacific Ocean war against the Japanese. And as the scene of the recent Mount Suribachi memorial appears, viewers are once again reminded of the price that comes before true victory can be achieved.

A Short clip of Clint Eastwood's movie "Flags of Our Fathers". In this scene, American marines rush a heavily defended Mount Suribachi. This is my favorite shot of the movie. I included some great music by John Powell for added drama. © 2006 Dreamworks SKG © 2006 Warner Bros. Pictures

Whenever, therefore, there is peace in the world, it must be known that it is due to the good will of the Lord. And whenever there is upheaval in the world, it is also due to the supreme will of the Lord. Not a blade of grass moves without the will of the Lord. Whenever, therefore, there is disobedience of the established rules enacted by the Lord, there is war between men and nations. The surest way to the path of peace, therefore, is dovetailing everything to the established rule of the Lord. The established rule is that whatever we do, whatever we eat, whatever we sacrifice or whatever we give in charity must be done to the full satisfaction of the Lord. No one should do anything, eat anything, sacrifice anything or give anything in charity against the will of the Lord. Discretion is the better part of valor, and one must learn how to discriminate between actions which may be pleasing to the Lord and those which may not be pleasing to the Lord. An action is thus judged by the Lord's pleasure or displeasure. There is no room for personal whims; we must always be guided by the pleasure of the Lord. Such action is called yogah karmasu kausalam, or actions performed which are linked with the Supreme Lord. That is the art of doing a thing perfectly. When the enemy has come to your country, you cannot sit idly; you must fight. But that does not mean that you are allowed to kill everyone as you like. That is a special circumstances when fighting must be there. Therefore the ksatriyas are required to give protection. Like the government is keeping military, police, soldiers, that does not mean government is after killing only. That department will be utilized when there is necessity, not that government is meant for killing. Government has other departments also. But this is also maintained. If there is necessity, it should be utilized. So Krsna, when He is on the battlefield, that was a necessity. He has got two business. Paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam. The World's First Meteorite Painter Mark W Joyner Mt Suribachi 015

Here is the world's first ever painted meteorite. It is the mindchild of one of the modern times' most important artist, the unmatchable Mark W. Joyner. MWJ does not simply create art pictures-- he is such a genius that he creates entirely new genres of artworks-- like his world-renound MWJ Splash Paintings, his MWJ AlienHead Artifacts, and most recently, MWJ Meteorite Artwork. On his MWJ Meteorite Artworks MWJoyner buys meteorites, and he checks them for certain features which appear to be iconoclastic figures and wellknown symbols. Once he has identified these icons, he paint them to highlight them. MWJ credits God The Creator with designing the icons as the meteorites fall from the Heavens to Earth, shaping them as He wishes, knowing that MWJoyner will purchase them (or find them himself--Joyner is an avid fossil and meteorite discoverer) study them, designate them, paint them, exhibit them, and catalogue for films and books each one of them in order as they are made, and then he sells them. This particular video showcases the very first MWJ Meteorite ArtWorks in the history of mankind. MWJ has titled it (in tribute to the men and women of the armed forces) "Flag Planter On Mount Suribachi" which is reminiscent of real life events during the "officially declared" World War Two. Originally there were about four to six soliders planting the flag, but God designed this particular meteorite to show only one flag and one solider. The type of meteorite this MWJ Meteorite ...

SANDS OF IWO JIMA

www.imdb.com sands of iwo jima Nominated for 4 Oscars. Another 1 win John Marion Stryker is the ultimate Marine, a tough rifle squad leader who in 1943 is assigned a squad of new recruits saddled with three veterans and an old enemy of Stryker's from previous duties in the Far East. One recruit in particlar is a source of friction with Stryker, Peter Conway, whose father was Stryker's CO at Guadalcanal and who felt his son was too soft and cowardly to be a Marine. The squad grows more and more resentful at Stryker's increasingly brutal training regimen and his lack of sympathy for the varied personal problems of the recruits, but his determination to mold them into fighting men helps save their lives when the squad is landed at Tarawa in November 1943 and Stryker risks his life to blow up a Japanese bunker that has slaughtered Marines trapped at a log wall. The now battle-tested squad becomes more closely-knit and Stryker's relationship with the men warms as the squad eventually finds itself in the bloodiest island battle of the war, at Iwo Jima
