The Ronno Bender is a fine replica of the legendary Sola Sound Tone Bender MK1, the long lost Holy Grail of the british fuzzes. The MK1 was seen at the feet of Jeff Beck in the Yardbirds era, it was also used by Pete Townshend back in the sixties. But the most notable and dedicated user of the MK1 and with greater effect was Mick Ronson in the good old days of The Spiders from Mars with David Bowie. Mick Ronson played a Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar through a Crybaby pedal, the Tone Bender and and then to a 200W Marshall Major amplifier. The Crybaby is another key factor to get the Ronson sound. Mick Ronson used to leave the wah-wah in a fixed position, normally on the bass side to have that gorgeous filtered sound. As you'll notice, all of this demo is played with a parked wah wah. A 14 years old swede bought this "fuzz box" - Tone Bender mk IV - at Miller's Music in Cambridge 1966, where also Syd Barrett was a frequent guest. It,s only been used consistently three or four months in winter 1967, by a local Uppsala band - The Outcast. For 44 years it's been lying in a drawer and has only occationally been taken out for a Sunday drive, every second year! The box was auctioned at "stompboxes.co.uk" in July 2010 and sold for many, many times more than the original price - and was then shipped way out west, to a well respected new owner! Thanks to the young guitarist Peter, in this video, who without preparation, helped to try the old box out a last time, in Sweden! Sorry for some sound latency due to poor video software.

The Super Bender is Manlay Sound's version of the MKII circuit. In its guts there are three germanium transistors which are hand selected and tested for optimum sound. The sustain is endless and the tone is awesome. Lots of shades of distortions can be achieved with the Super Bender: from almost clean to pure brutality, just at the touch of the volume of your guitar or the attack control.
