TAIKOPROJECT was founded in 2000 in Los Angeles, California by a group of young, emerging taiko drummers. They were seeking to create a truly American style of taiko, blending traditional forms in which they were raised, with an innovative and fresh aesthetic approach to the Japanese drum. In just 11 short years, they have garnered critical acclaim from all over the world and amassed an impressive resume. TAIKOPROJECT first made waves when they became the first American taiko group to win the prestigious Tokyo International Taiko Contest in 2005, beating out all the Japanese taiko groups in attendance. That same year, they were cast in the Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial, the first and only national ad campaign to prominently feature taiko. They followed that up with performances in some of America's highest profile events, including the 2009 Academy Awards and the 2011 Grammy Awards. TAIKOPROJECT has performed and recorded with some of the world's most well-known musical artists, including Stevie Wonder, Usher, rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, AR Rahman, John Legend, rapper Xzibit, Kanye West, producer Squeak E. Drum beats signifying crashing big waves and the volatility of the sea. This style of drumming originated on Miyake Island, which is located in the Pacific Ocean, south of Tokyo. Miyake-Daiko is an energetic style of taiko characterized by a driving beat with the drums positioned horizontally and set on very low stands. The piece is unique in the way the drummers must position themselves to play the drums. It is a beautiful playing style, made more powerful because the drums are completely free to resonate.

Been a while since my last video. My previous video card has been fried, so I'm working off a cheap one I had lying around. You may notice sudden drops in my framerate. Anyways, my WIP of Necrofantasia from the album "Touhou Maboroshi Soumatsu Ten 2 Canon" by Liverne. This mix was arranged by Demetori's guitarist (or so I've heard) and as such also appears on Demotori's "Il Mondo dove e finito il Tempo" album. The original song in which this covers is "Necrofantasia" from the Touhou game titled "Perfect Cherry Blossom." It's the 7th game in the Touhou series, and my personal favorite. The theme belongs to Yukari Yakumo (On right in BG picture), though the theme can also be tied to Ran Yakumo, her Shikigami.(On left in BG picture) Ran's theme is titled Necro-fantasy, and according to ZUN is the original of the 2 themes. On Necrofantasia, ZUN wrote, "Meant to be an arranged version of Ran's theme, it ended up quite different." The map is NOT done, though it has been in this state for some time now. It will be completed someday, but nobody knows when that day will come. Well, I seemed to have put in a lot more work into my Video Info this time, eh?
