Elton John & Bernie Taupin - Interview (OGWT) PT 3 of 3

Bernie Taupin gets to say a few words before Elton cuts him off and rambles on for the rest of the interview. Check out Bernies body language while Elton plays the 'Star'. Pt 3 of 3. Sorry about the crackling in the audio, this wasn't broadcast like this so i don't know how it managed to get onto the tape. Shown/repeated on BBC4 in June 2009.

Bernie Taupin - The Greatest Discovery (with Lyrics!)

Here's Bernie Taupin, the lyricist, reciting the words from one of the early Elton John-Bernie Taupin songs. This is taken from Bernie's 1971 album, entitled simply "Bernie Taupin", on which he recited his own poetry. The musical accompaniment is actually played by Davey Johnstone, who after this session became Elton's long-time guitarist and musical collaborator. Elton's version of "The Greatest Discovery" appeared on his 1970 album "Elton John". When Elton has performed this song in concert he has described it as Bernie's recollection of the birth of his younger brother.... But actually I think the lyrics describe Bernie's own arrival in the world, from the point of view of his older brother! This recording is taken from the original vinyl!

"Scarecrow" - Elton John and Bernie Taupin

"Scarecrow" composed and recorded in 1967. The celebrated first song by Bernie Taupin and Reg Dwight. Having answered an ad for 'Talent Wanted' regarding Liberty Records seeking same; Reg had just failed his audition with Ray Williams at Regent Sound Studios on Denmark Street in London. ..."You must be joking" they told him, and Reg felt his one golden chance of ever escaping the dark cloud of Bluesology had gone down the drain. Williams, sympathetic to the crest fallen Reg, felt that since he had already admitted being weak in writing words to music, Ray handed Reg an envelope of poems sent in by a young man named Bernie Taupin from Lincolnshire. Williams also provided Reg with some valuable contacts, addresses and phone numbers and bid him good luck. As fate would have it, Reg met an old acquaintance by the name of Caleb Quaye, who was now working as a recording engineer at the offices of Dick James Music. The two of them set to work recording clandestine demos of Bernie's poems and narratives. Several weeks (perhaps months) later, Ray Williams introduced Bernie (who was visiting his aunt in London) to Reg and they played the recently recorded songs to Bernie. One of the compositions was "Scarecrow", which both Reg and Ray liked very much. It was the very first melody that Reg Dwight set to Taupin poem. After several months of confusion, misunderstanding, poor decision making, and the general infighting involving music politics; Reg Dwight and Bernie Taupin formally ...

SOCIAL DISEASE (by Elton John and Bernie Taupin)

SOCIAL DISEASE Music by Elton John Lyrics by Bernie Taupin My bulldog is barking in the backyard Enough to raise a dead man from his grave And I can't concentrate on what I'm doing Disturbance going to crucify my days And the days they get longer and longer And the nighttime is a time of little use For I just get ugly and older I get juiced on Mateus and just hang loose And I get bombed for breakfast in the morning I get bombed for dinner time and tea I dress in rags, smell a lot, and have a real good time I'm a genuine example of a social disease My landlady lives in a caravan Well that is when she isn't in my arms And it seems I pay the rent in human kindness But my liquor also helps to grease her palms And the ladies are all getting wrinkles And they're falling apart at the seams Well I just get high on tequila And see visions of vineyards in my dreams

SEASONS ( ELTON JOHN BERNIE TAUPIN COVER ) 04.28.09

This song has always been a secret favourite of mine. I've met very few people who are familiar with it, as it was a song that was part of a film soundtrack to a movie called FRIENDS (1971.) I've yet to see the film, but I became familiar with the song when I purchased Elton John's RARE MASTERS double cd, back in 1992. I fell in love with the song then and there. The song's inclusion on the HEART live album, THE ROAD HOME (produced and arranged by Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones) from 1995 was the main reason why I picked up that album too, just to see how the gals would approach the song. (Pick it up. It's worth it.) Elton and Bernie have written some amazing pop songs over the years, songs that have become standards, but I truly believe some of their lesser-known songs, like Seasons, Come Down In Time, Harmony, We All Fall In Love Sometimes, Goodbye, Tonight, Empty Garden, Believe and I Want Love need to be covered and played and exposed to a wider audience. In my opinion, those songs sit very comfortably within the pantheon, right along side Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Tiny Dancer and Bennie And The Jets. If I ever met Elton, I would implore him to put those songs into his touring setlist. I don't know if he's ever played Seasons live. He should. (Then I'd grill him on working with Paul Buckmaster, his orchestral arranger in the early years!) ;-) My keyboard barely held together for this performance. Clack clack clack. COME DOWN IN TIME ~ ELTON JOHN and BERNIE TAUPIN ~ Lyrics

This is my first attempt to express my love for the simple pleasures with my own video taken on the fourth of July, 2009. I spent the day with my sister Amy ~SeaShellAnnie~ and her family at one of our favorite places on the planet..that we call Christmas Tree...she and I have found many a peaceFul moment here..It is the simple pleasures and the ordinary miracles from aboVe that bring me the most joy, and, I find myself embracing them more each day..I share these in hopes it will bring each of you who take your time to watch a peaceful moment and a little piece of my life...Thank you so much for watching...When I went to the bible to find a verse to share...I was immediately taken to Psalm 148: 7&8 and, it was just perfect..as only Our Father could do..because there actually is a harp being played in this never to be forgotten tune by Elton John..lyrics by Bernie Taupin...How awesome is that!! From wikipedia: Come Down in Time" comprised the second track on Elton John's third album, Tumbleweed Connection, released in 1970. The lyrics are by Bernie Taupin, Elton's long time writing partner. The song is of average length, a bit over three minutes, and utilizes the harp as primary musical accompaniment--this, surprisingly, is charateristic of many of Elton's early works, including "Sixty Years On" and "The Greatest Discovery" both released on his second album, Elton John. Each of these songs was played alongside the Sydney Orchestra in a 1986 live performance. Though ...
