Carleton University Tennis Team

The Carleton University Tennis Club started 2 years ago by Andrew Labenek with the hopes of bringing tennis and competition back to Carleton's campus. The purpose of the Carleton University Tennis Club is to use fitness, camaraderie, and sportsmanship to make tennis on Carleton's campus and beyond as fun and competitive as possible. The club runs on a year-round schedule that meets three times a week for practice and once a week for fitness training. This upcoming year promises to be the best ever with the tennis club being accepted to play at a NCAA Division I Invitational with 20 other schools which includes Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Brown, Columbia, Connecticut, Villanova, Army and Annapolis based Navy. One of the goals of the club is to resurrect the heritage of a strong tennis program at Carleton University, which saw two OUA tennis Championships in 1968-69 and 1970-71. www.carleton.ca

Carleton University UAV Project

Uninhabited Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are being developed and used in many countries around the world, mostly in military applications. However, civilian applications are increasing at a high rate and include various types of airborne surveys, such as geophysical, environmental, security and wildlife inventories, to name a few. At Carleton University we have an active project developing an integrated multi-mission UAS. The development started seven years ago as one of the final-year undergraduate projects within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. In collaboration with Sander Geophysics Limited (SGL), an Ottawa-based geophysics company, Carleton is developing a UAS for high-resolution magnetic surveys, called GeoSurv II. SGL studies have shown that a relatively small air vehicle would be highly competitive for such surveys and, consequently, the company has been providing significant in-kind support to the undergraduate project. In 2009, the Carleton UAV Project began development of a new UAS, called Corvus. Corvus will be a modular, multi-mission system based on open-source hardware and software. The first aircraft within the Corvus system, called Rook, has a take-off weight of approximately 20kg and has a wingspan of 3.5m. This year, students have designed and begun manufacturing the Corvus-Rook Demonstrator (CR-D), which will serve as a proof-of-concept prototype to assess and verify the aircraft design. For his last song of his set he asked the members of Acres and Acres to join him on stage to perform this song. The guys had never played the song before and were just told the basic format by Owen before the song started. They do a pretty good job for on the fly.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - (A CAPPELLA)

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - House Fire, as sung by the Carleton Singing Knights. Fall Concert, 11/14/07. This is... probably... the most obscure song the Knights have done... at least in my recent memory. It's so awesome though. Doesn't the drummer's... cousin... or something.. go here? I think so. SSLYBY is pretty sweet, they played on campus last term, and it inspired an a cappella arrangement. This is song by Ben M and Andrew Snyder. Maine Eastern Railroad Train No. 002 blares its Nathan K5H over 20 times at the Bath, ME crossings. This train, led by EMD FL9 No. 489 (Ex-Amtrak), is returning to Rockland on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, (On time at 10:45!) after arriving in Brunswick, ME with stops in Wiscasset and Bath. The 6-car consist includes the Magnolia, Elm, Ash, Pine, Birken, and Alexander Hamilton; the excursion today included a diner (Birken) and Parlor-Class car.
